Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Color Coca-Cola oscuro, bonita espuma cremosa beige claro. El aroma es bruto, lúpulo. Poco agradable. En boca mejora mucho. Muy malteada, ligeramente dulce. Bastante ahumada. Evoluciona hacia un final bastante seco y ahumado. Algún toque frutal. En conjunto bastante completa. Se disfruta.

Aroma: Fruity, piney, later dark malts.
Appearance: Dark brown color. Minimal, beige head.
Taste: Medium sweet, dark malts, fruits, light bitter.
Palate: Medium body. Bitter finish.
Overall: Good dark ale. Not much IPA character. Quite sweet.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2017 hoppy but sweet aroma, taste goes from bitter to sweet. I see why its liked, a little bipolar for me, but will return to it in the future

Bottle at home. A true to form black IPA. There was a strong flavour of malt and a good lick of hops in what was a tasty and thirst quenching beer. If I was being picky then I would say it could have coped with more hops, but this was a solid and tasty beer.

Pours black, film of head. Aroma is leathery. Earthy and spicy, with going to biscuity at the end. Full body. Nice.

Clear dark red with a minimal tan head. Minimal hoppy aroma; flavor starts off hoppy but then segues weirdly into cheese. Medium-bodied, slightly sticky, and with a weirdly dry finish. I’m not convinced.

Nikokaoja (244) - Ljubljana, SLOVENIA - FEB 15, 2017
15. 2. 2017, Ljubljana. Bottled. Interesting black filtered IPA with a twist in taste, presumably due to a type of hops I guess. Very drinkable but with a specific bitter aftertaste. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
