Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Clear dark brown almost black appearance with medium strong head. Nose reveals roasted malt, pine and resin with a bit of citrus. Buttery and creamy taste, slightly sweet with pronounced bitter finish. Well rounded, very good black IPA style.

jaghana (6312) - Strasbourg (Alsace), FRANCE - OCT 23, 2013
Bottle 50cl, a dark beer with good head. Nose is on fresh hops and caramel. Aroma is on hops bouquet, fresh hops, apricot, exotic fruits, caramel, dark chocolate, lemon, toffee, good dark notes on aftertaste, quite bitter, nice.

JefVerstraete (3673) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - OCT 19, 2013
Dark brown colour, low carbonation. Extremely well balanced beer. Aroma of hops, citrus and dark chocolate. Some roastiness also. Very drinkable. Bitter finish. Great!

culchiem (4182) - Berlin, GERMANY - OCT 11, 2013
Draught. Dark brown to black with a large firm creamy head. Aroma is marmalade hop. Flavour is toasted, cigar, hoppy with a quite intense sticky bitter hop finish.

rhyshewer (79) - Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - OCT 11, 2013
Aroma: Tangerine with an undertone of herbs and an edge of dark malt. Develops a hint of washing-up liquid.
Appearance: Black opaque body with deep red edges, minimal tan head.
Taste: Honey and lemon with a touch of liquorice leaving a slight roasted bitterness.
Palate: Medium bodied with a slight oiliness and solid carbonation. A dank clingy finish.
Overall: Smells American, tastes British. More IPA than black.

Habanero (4887) - Tranbjerg, DENMARK, DENMARK - OCT 8, 2013
Bottled. Pours Deep Brown with a medium sized, lacing, tan head. Aroma of toasted malt, citrus, grapefruit and pine. Sweet flavor that ends up dry and nice bitter. Medium bodied, oily text. and soft carb. An excellent Black IPA.

Swaroga (2224) - Warszawa, POLAND - OCT 3, 2013
50cl bottle. Black with medium head. Nose : black chocolate, cocoa, fresh citrus with zest aromas. Pine. Pineapple. Sip : Smooth, low carbonation. Thick and oily. Sweet, brownie tart flavor. Fruity notes makes it well balanced and bring our some dry and bitter on the end. It leaves a black chocolate with orange peel like aftertaste. The beer is mild , well balanced and easy to drink compared to other black IPA.

Chrishrt30 (102) - AUSTRALIA - SEP 29, 2013
Dark brown almost black, nice thin light tan head. Huge floral hop aroma, spiced fruits, a little grassy and toasted malts, a little burnt toast. A real English IPA, with the added bitterness of toasted malts. Big stone fruits, silky smooth caramels and toffee. Big resinous hops help balance out the fruit, the beer finished so sharp and bitter, burnt malts adding a great dimension to the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

erickok (6036) - Leuven, BELGIUM - SEP 23, 2013
Black bodied with lasting besiege head. Aromatic herbal and grassy hops, roasted coffee beans, toast and cleanly fermented. Enough sweetness to form body and back up the abv, yet with heavy bitterness. Really nice, Sharp edges and smooth toffee sweetness in harmony. Very well made and interesting brew. (50cl bottle from Dranken Geers)

jd543 (428) - SCOTLAND - SEP 21, 2013
Deep dark brown-red (practically black) with a medium beige head. Lovely floral hop aroma, with some earthy, chocolate malt and some smoke. Sweet on the tongue with a medium bitter finish. Oily texture with light carbonation, perhaps a little thin.Really nice beer.
