Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Black, tanned head. Smells of citrus, toast and roast. Medium sweet, roastym not very fruity. Medium bitter, resins. A bit boring this one; the flavors and aromas are ok, but i guess i want some more complexity; this is pretty straight forward

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2017 Bottle from Thornbridge Brewery and Rehills, Newcastle. A black-brown beer that pours with a thick white foamy head. It has a sweet citrus, red fruit and chocolate flavour followed by cherry, vanilla and sweet fruit on the smooth chocolate and malty finish. Very good.

garthicus (2929) - Dublin, IRELAND - JAN 26, 2013
Tap at the Salt House. Appearance: Black, small mocha coloured head. Aroma: Sweet hops, citrus, perfume, herbal, lots of hops. Flavour; woah! Big hop wallop, like biting a grapefruit ! So perfume floral like, hops galore, long bitter hop finish, tremendous!

larsga (7540) - Oslo, NORWAY - JAN 23, 2013
Medium beige head. Clear dark red body with light carbonation. Earthy roasty fruity aroma with gooseberry notes. Dry-sweet roasty earthy dusty taste with orangey notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, oily mouthfeel. Dry orangey resiny roasty aftertaste with earthy metallic mineraly notes. Nice, drinkable, not terribly remarkable. (0.5l bottle shared with gr0ve at Crowbar, Oslo.)

GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 21, 2013
Tap at The Birch. Big tan head on deep ruby. $%#@ ton of lace. Nose is cheesy stale DIPA, not much else- candies, lemon, cheesecloth, dust. Taste is lemon gum drops, sweet tea, cheesecloth. Not really black IPA in taste. Hints of roast, no density. Fiancé rating: 3.8

sir__v (2629) - FRANCE - JAN 20, 2013
UPDATED: SEP 29, 2015 Color: dark black beer with no carbonation and small heavy ivory foam. Smell: spices, hops, malt, caramel. Taste: malt, caramel, hops. Aftertaste: nice bitterness, hops and caramel.

Ravenous is a good word, get it in your magpie book. This has got better the further down I’ve got. I like getting down. Just don’t wear jeans. Malty. Dark. Incendiary.

Raven Black IPA is probably the best IPA that i’ve drank. Malt and hops are in perfect balance in this beer. Taste starts with aseet aroma of dark brown malt and continues to bitter and dry finish. I could drink this all night!

Desverger (11455) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - JAN 8, 2013
(bottle from Mr Lawrence, SE London) Pours dark brown to black with an off-white head and persistent lacing. Aroma/taste is complex fruity and hoppy with grapefruit prominence and pleasing malt character. Lovely bitter finish. Great stuff.
