COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask and bottles; semi-regular.
Originally released a for the Chesterfield CAMRA festival.
Renamed as Wild Raven in 2013 due to another beer going by the name "Raven" elsewhere
The recipe for the brew came from James Kemp, who joined the team a few months ago. Previously crowned the New Zealand Home Brewing Champion in 2008 and winner of a Liberty Award, Kemp used Maris Otter, Black Patent and Chocolate malt along with Nelson Sauvin, Centennial and Sorachi hops.
The beer, called Raven, has bitterness and hop character and plenty of malt flavours to give it complexity.
James moved on to Buxton brewery and is now a freelance brewer

Pours almost pitch black. Rich and smooth taste. Im actually amazed at how flavourful it is while at the same time being so smooth. Some citrus hints with a slightly bitter aftertaste reminding me of dark chocolate or coffee. A great beer that I truly recommend.

Really good beer from a fantastic brewery. Nice to try something a bit different from your typical paler IPAs. Appearance: dark, slightly hazy Aroma: tropical fruits, roasted malt Taste: complex flavours, hints of chocolate and dark roasted malt alongside big hoppy bitterness and some sweet, tropical fruit/citrus flavours Medium bodied. Bitter finish.

A really well balanced black IPA. Has cocoa, mild roasted coffee and treacle notes, followed by a slightly grassy hoppy taste, very smooth finish with some sweetness. Price Paid: 2.20 - 330ml bottle.

On tap @ Thornbridge s Hertogenbosch. Clear very dark brown with a beige head. Hoppy aroma with heavily roasted malts. Very characteristic peculiar hop aroma but I definitely like it. Easily one of the best black IPAs Ive ever had.

Aromat: cytrusy i żywice, niezbyt intensywny. Wygląd: ciemnobrązowe, ładna warstewka białej piany. Smak: pijalne i lekkie, niezbyt intensywne, trochę gorzkiej czekolady, trochę kawy, mało nachmielone (piłem świeże). Goryczka niezbyt intensywna, lekka w kierunku średniej, chwilę zalega, piwo lekkie ale dobrze zbalansowane. Nie porywa, ale nieźle się pije

Since I am a not too keen on the black IPA s, this was a great surprise. A chocolate and leather start with a citrus kick and a nice hop complexity at the end.

Color Coca-Cola oscuro, bonita espuma cremosa beige claro. El aroma es bruto, lúpulo. Poco agradable. En boca mejora mucho. Muy malteada, ligeramente dulce. Bastante ahumada. Evoluciona hacia un final bastante seco y ahumado. Algún toque frutal. En conjunto bastante completa. Se disfruta.

Bottle at home. A true to form black IPA. There was a strong flavour of malt and a good lick of hops in what was a tasty and thirst quenching beer. If I was being picky then I would say it could have coped with more hops, but this was a solid and tasty beer.
