COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The India Pale Ale was born when handfuls of fresh hops were added to barrels to preserve beer quality when shipping from England to colonial India. It is the same generous addition of hops that allow the Three Boys IPA to survive the long haul, but when drunk fresh you ca really appreciate the aroma our special selection of NZ hops creates.

500ml bottle. Aroma: embarrassed to say that very first impression is that it smells like Steinlager (but costs four times as much), after tasting there is more to enjoy about it - malt syrup I had as a child, toffee, band aid (I cant explain why that is a pleasant aroma to me, it just is), dough yeast, dry grass, delicate almost mouldy tangerine, pine. Appearance: nice clear warm amber hue with large off-white fluffy sea-foam diminishing head and foamy lacing. Taste: mild sweetness which is quickly overtaken by moderate bitterness with a long duration, a touch of sourness. Palate: light medium body, smooth lightly creamy texture, tingly carbonation, long dry slightly astringent finish. Overall: nice enough, the "generous addition of hops" as described on the label must have been left out of batch 1243 :). Different to most IPA’s I have had.

500ml bottle. Slightly cloudy, dark orangey, golden colour with average, frothy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Piney, grassy, hoppy aroma, caramel malty basis with a bready touch, hints of gooseberry, a touch of red berries. Taste is dry, grassy and slightly piney and minimally floral hoppy, some fresh hay, some husk, caramel malty basis with unmatching hints of toffee. Slightly unbalanced, the toffee touch doesn’t make sense to me.

500ml bottle HUGE head which overflowed on opening. Hazy light brown pour. Slight hop/malt aroma. Mild bitterness. Malty palate but not much else. Nothing special. Ho hum.

500ml bottle from Good Spirits Co. Wine & Beer. Hazy orange brown, reasonable head. Toffee malt aroma. Grassy toffee malt flavour. Bitter toffee aftertaste. More an amber ale than an IPA.

Dredd (938) - Bentleigh, AUSTRALIA - SEP 18, 2016
UPDATED: SEP 18, 2016 Copper amber pour with thin white head. Light citrus and apricot aroma. Flavor is good bready malts, stone fruit and long bitter finish. Well balanced and easy drinking compared to the beast style ipa.

[8316-20160520] Tap. Lightly citrus peel hops aroma. Clear, pale orange yellow body with a huge long-lasting foamy off-white head. More citrus lemon hops in the flavour. Medium body finishes bitter. Good. (7/3/7/3/14) 3.4

2016-05-20. Crisp amber body, modest head. 4+ Aroma skews malty with some pleasant hop character. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, mild fruit, malty core. Average bodied palate, moderate carbonation. Maltier than my preference but enjoyable. 6-7/3/6-7/3/14 Sampled on tap at the brewery, Christchurch, NZ.

Bottle. Ruby color with beige head. Aroma is caramel, earthy hops, a bit of that vomit-like old hops feeling. Taste is the same. Quite british, not excellent.

A very subdued aroma of tropical fruits, and some malt. Pours a slightly hazy pale caramel color with a white head with some lacing. The head dissipates quickly. A watery feel and mild taste not much of any distinctive flavor. Some tropical fruits light bitterness with a mineral hops finish.

New cans, Chelmsford Ale House. Thanks, Justin 1970s Boy. Some oxidation. Sweet hot aroma. Drinks great. Nice soft malts. Lemongrass. Spritzy. Clean. Nice work. If it wasn’t for the oxidisation I would happily drink it all day.

Scopey (14723) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 22, 2016
Bottle purchased for dirty cheap as it a touch old. It pours hazy deep orange - amber with a medium off-white head. The nose is bitter - sweet, perfumed, orange peel, stewed fruits, peach, fruit cake and light toffee. The taste is crisp, bitter, pine needles, stewed orange, peach, lemon rind, peppery spice and varnish with a dry finish. Medium body and fine, prickly carbonation. Pretty ok.
