COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Doctors once prescribed stout as a revitalising tonic, while brewers enhanced their potency with additional ingredients, like oysters, which had desirable properties of their own. The Three Boys Oyster Stout contains select malt and hops to produce a beer that is rich and complex. And, who knows, our addition of genuine Bluff oysters to this very special brew might be just what the doctor ordered.

From Labirratorium. In Ikeas pint glass. Watching Arrival. The oysters provides between salty and sweet notes that are pleasant but do not stand out enough to make it something exceptional

500 ml bottle. 6.5%. BB 14/Sep/2017. Thanks Timo! Dark brown color with a small dark tan head. Roasted malt, salty licorice, sweetness, chocolate and some hops in the aroma. The flavor is roasted malt, hops, licorice, dryness and chocolate. A bit thin but flavorsome. Not bad. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours dark brown-black color with small head. Aroma is cocoa and nuts, dark bread, some yeasty tones, malts. Flavor is cocoa and toasted malts, some dark ripe fruits, some dry bitterness. Maybe slightly thin but fair amount of flavors here. Decent.

On handpull at the Lumsden. Pours opaque black with a thick lingering coffee colour head. Aroma is sweet chocolate, little creamy, lots of toast, little savoury earthiness. Flavour is initial milk chocolate into a salty umami earth character with plenty of toast and a little charcoal. Its thick, creamy and luxurious and works perfectly on the hand pull. Really quite a lot going on, in a very good way.

Bottle picked up in London and shared at Leightons. As Three Boys Oyster Stout, 6.5%, brewed with NZ bluff oysters. Black with the lightest red hue, foamy dense brown head, full lacing. Aroma is chocolate, earthy, some varnish. Body is light-ish, tingly carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste is earthy, dark chocolate, ashy. Not really picking up on the oyster addition that much. Maybe a little briney, though you could argue that in lots of beers. A nice stout once the carbonation subsides - nonetheless. (3.5)

Leightons flat clearance. Thanks to unclean Daniel. Opaque dark brown beer, tidy tan head. Palate is airy and semi dry, modest fine carbonation. Smooth malts with developing coffee bitterness. Tangy dark fruits. Bitter coffee start to dominate. Dry finish. Fine.

500 ml bottle at Toscana in Te Anau. Very good stout with balance between toasted malt, coffee, and chocolate. Addition of oysters adds an extra flavour dimension. Very good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
