Pours light brown with a small white head. Aroma is hops and malt blended nicely. Taste is similar to sierra nevada but better hoped. Alpha King has some earthy tones to it. Great stuff. Dorwart (2603) - Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA - FEB 28, 2005
Abundant head with light carbonation. Head lasts for a while frothy and rocky on top. Color is a clear dark amber. Juicy hops aroma. Plenty of citrus and spruce. An absolute joy to inhale. Plentiful hops in the flavor. More citrus and grapefruit. Crisp and dry with plenty of bitterness. Little malt for balance. Finish is long and bitter. A top quality pale ale with plenty of hops for the hop-heads out there. AcctError17388 (69) - USA - FEB 28, 2005
UPDATED: MAR 19, 2005 Bought this when I turned 21 and wasn’t disappointed. Like the other reviews have said, this is a very hoppy beer which was new to me. Bitter flavor dominates this beer but it is suprisingly smooth as well. Overall I was impressed. Hopefully I can make it to their brewery sometime since I am in Indiana growler (74) - West Virginia, USA - FEB 25, 2005
12 oz bottle. Orange color with an ever so slight haze and a fairly moderate off white head. Has a wonderfully refreshing scent of mixed citrus fruits including, grapefruit, oranges and tangerines. Strong bitter flavor up front from the agressive hopping that quickly disapates to a nice a dry crisp finish. A great pale ale; one of my favorites. Hops...it’s all about the hops...... badgerben (5252) - Blaine, Minnesota, USA - FEB 23, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 31, 2010 Original Rating, February 23, 2005. Dark gold color with a thin head. Apple and hoppy aroma. Good crikey... I think they might have added some hops to this one. Heavy hops and pine flavor with some more of that apple and citrus blend. Good malt backup. Damn fine tasty pale.

Extremely hoppy aroma, what else to expect? Very hoppy taste without any hint of malt, what else to expect? Dry and long hoppy aftertaste, what else to expect?
Props to Duane. Poured amber, with a HUGE off white fluffy head. Wonderful aroma. I detect, something sweet, under the barrage of pine sap hops. Flavor is hops of course, but there is a small amount of malt sweetness to help balance this. I am NOT a hop head, but I enjoyed this. ante (3373) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - FEB 20, 2005
Clear pale amber colour, thick firm white head. Soft but really strong juicy hop aroma of grapefruit and lemon. Loads of citric fruit in flavour with silky smooth malt profile. Fresh green hops in the long bitter aftertaste. Very good. scraff (2121) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 19, 2005
Deep hazed copper, thin white creamy head. Nose pumps out grapefruit, spruce, florals, sweet buttery toffee, and caramel. My older bottle seems to be more balanced then past fresh bottles that typically were hop nation. Even so, flavor is still hops galore with a bitter-sweet rich malt backbone shining through nicely. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, smooth, creamy, bitter-sweet citric finish. One of the best APA’s in the world...... hopsMD (5) - Bridgewater, New Jersey, USA - FEB 19, 2005 does not count
Nicely balanced, complex palate sweet, piney/resiny. Dry pleasant finish with a medium bite.
