This stuff is hop-heroin for the hophead. The aroma comes at you miles away from the glass, a perfect floral and citrus delight. The flavor is fantastic, just the right amount of malt and a shovelful of hops. Between this and Dreadnaught, Three Floyds really know how to do it right when it comes to big hoppy brews. Cheers! salishan1969 (16) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - AUG 4, 2004
Alpha King screams hops...and manages to do so without becoming obnoxious. Nice orange/amber color and fair head. Great citrus aroma let’s on to the smack of hops to follow. Sort of balls up on the tongue and rolls away. It lives up to the reputation and that says a lot. Marc (486) - Yokosuka, JAPAN - AUG 1, 2004
Toasted carmel, licorish, herbs, earthy hops, grass clipping, malt syrup, and a little honey. Cloudy orage with a fine thin head. Chewy malts, grassy hops, anise, alcohol. Finnishes very grainy and herbal. Thanks Pabobcat Brodie (540) - Boone, North Carolina, USA - JUL 28, 2004
Potent hop aroma - grapefruit, grass, oranges - all so fresh! Just a hint of malt and a pleasant fruitiness add complexity to the aroma. Clear amber color, off-white head. Great hop flavor with some pleasant maltiness coming through in the middle. Nice hoppy bittnerness right through to the finish. Medium-full body. Great APA! Quite bitter and full for the style. One of the best hop profiles I’ve encountered in a beer. pineypower (3327) - Ocean County, New Jersey, USA - JUL 27, 2004
UPDATED: OCT 25, 2006 First time I found Three Floyds and boy am I glad I did. Pours a dark reddish hued amber with a small head. It has a hoppy/malty aroma. The taste is very clean and smooth with nice notes of malts finishing off with a nice hoppy taste. Can’t wait to find Three Floyds again

Clear copper color, small beige compact head, lots of sheeting lace - Alpha King "Gorgeous George the III" Pale Ale, yep...that’ll do.
Mighty fine hopified wiffer for an aroma, highly sweet, softly resinous, calming citrus, slick pine, freshly floral; its got it all in the hop profile. Dreadnaughts little brother for a nose. A hop bouquet! Nicey nice. Yum.
Taste has a well rounded front, slight fruity malts with hop flavors of dulled citrusy stuff. Builds quickly from there with fresh floral tones, crisp yet green like a green bean, toasty just past midway, growing into lingering hop piney bitterness which is pretty full of good Ol’ alpha acids to fade off and squeeze out any sweetness remaining. Quite juicy and resinous with a favorable drying of bitterness. Some slight toffee eeks its way onto the sides of the cheeks super later.
Feel is clean, slick, quick the whole way through, about medium body, nearing more lighter due to its remarkable cleanness - calming and smooth in the front, wafting hoppy finish of refined bitterness and light drying for its back.
A magnificent pale! beerinmarch (2830) - Washington, USA - JUL 26, 2004
Pours a dark copper color with a small off-white head. Big citrus hop nose, very impressive, i smelled it from way back. Taste starts a bit sweet and malty with a faint caramel like thing goin on, then is nicely finished off by a good bitterness. Faint grapefruitiness in the aftertaste from all the citrus hops. I was really excited to try this brew and it lived up to all its hype. NVBeer232 (467) - Reno, Nevada, USA - JUL 23, 2004
Copper color with a slightly off white head. Nose dominated by citrus. Flavors echo the same thing. Lots of big, juicy citrus flavors with a pleasant amount of carbonation and a nice, dry, clean finish. Damn good, and deserves the praise it recieves. kwoeltje (2233) - Manchester, Missouri, USA - JUL 22, 2004
Orange-amber with rapidly fading head. Huge aroma of citrus/hops. Nice hops bitterness with lots of grapefruit. Enough malt to keep it from being unbalanced. jimmack (1223) - Nutley, New Jersey, USA - JUL 20, 2004
Sampled on tap at Brewtopia ’04. Orange/amber color with a small white head. Strong hop aroma with hints of citrus and rosemary perhaps? Initial taste was slightly malty, then the hops dominate, in a great way. Great beer.
