An excellent, refreshing and hoppy pale ale. Nice orangey color, good head, excellent hop aroma and good flavor. loweredsixth (946) - Clovis, California, USA - SEP 20, 2003
Clear orange color with a nice thick beige head. The aroma was wonderfully sweet and citrusy. The flavor was very sweet, malty, slightly hoppy (not as much as the aroma would make you expect), and some caramel, and great pine tones. Great thick feel...smooth on the tongue. Great APA. alpha king rocks! this stuff is smooth, with nice head, capmlex carmel and strong hops, smooth as a silk coat! Kåstå (1273) - Mol, BELGIUM - SEP 19, 2003
Clear amber coloured beer with a small head. Strong ginger, herby, floral taste. A bit too much flavour added for my taste, but ok nevertheless. EKGoldings (664) - Radford, Virginia, USA - SEP 8, 2003
Another tasty three floyds offering that will make hopheads smile. I find the hops sharper and more citrusy than in DN, but there is a lighter body and less malt here.

Frothy off-white head. Clear orange copper color. Malty aroma with hint of hops. Very mellow. Bitter beginning, malty middle, and a quick good dry finish. Medium bodied and dry. Bitterness lingers. Libeerian (209) - Garner, North Carolina, USA - SEP 4, 2003
Alpha King is one of the best balanced pale ales you'll ever taste. Clean hoppy and refreshing. Cobra (1100) - - SEP 2, 2003
12 oz. longneck brown bottle. No freshness date seen. Poured out a dark orange color, with a green tinted tan head. The head didn't last long, and it did leave some lacing down the sides of the glass.
Aromas...where to start? Right off the bat, it is apparent this beer is full of fresh hops. Floral, piney, resinous smelling hops are very noticeable here gang. Slight dry biscuit aroma quickly fades. The hops are what makes this beer great, though. Sticky mouthfeel, slight coating of the old tongue. Finishes bitter & very hoppy.
A pretty good IPA, but not quite as good as their Dreadnaught. Ubiquibeer (140) - Cleveland, USA - AUG 31, 2003
Pours a nice deep amber with a medium, lasting head. Aroma spicy, floral and the signature 3f grapefruit scent. I was wondering what the difference between their IPA and the APA would be; they are somewhat different beers. This one seems to have a little more roasted flavor, and not as intensely hopped. It is not as sweet as Dreadnaught, and of course not as strong ABV. Perhaps also a little more drinkable (and less dangerous) in large quantities. All-in-all a very fine beer.

Reddish purple with a thin to moderate head. Citrus, sharp and tangy nose. The taste is sour and kind of concentrated. Not bad
