draft- FFF- dear lord- this stuff is so good. Just pure hop juice with little in the way of hop bitterness. Surprised to see an ABV listed at 10 percent, because it was listed at 6 at the brewpub. Either way, a fruity, pine explosion that was beyond words great for a hop head like myself. Not something you could drink a lot of. xmarcnolanx (937) - Kirkwood, Missouri, USA - AUG 15, 2008
Tap GTMW 2008
Wow, one of the best of the fest.
Aroma was huge passion fruit and hoppiness. I also get some spiciness.
Taste is citric, crisp, bright hoppiness.
Finishes dank and resinous.
Awesome. SQNfan (591) - Wheaton, Illinois, USA - JUL 27, 2008
On tap at the brewpub: This poured deep copper. Wonderful aromas of tropical fruit (mango, pineapple, orange). In the mouth it was medium-bodied and concentrated with a dry, hoppy finish. The flavors in this one really hit my sweet spot. 12many (277) - Alaska, USA - JUL 22, 2008
On tap at brewpub. Looks very similar to Dreadnaught just a little bit lighter in color. Amber with a foamy white head and great lacing. Citrus, earthy, resin hops with a good amount of peach in the aroma. Flavor is more sweet than Dreadnaught then a smooth bitterness. Great brew. Menu said 6% ABV when I had it. Small sample, on tap at Great Taste of the Midwest. Consumed on 8-9-2008. Pours an effervescent, hazy gold. Lemon, lime, and salt combine to create a great, Sprite-like aroma. Really nice, citrus and pine-hoppy taste. Medium to full body. Crisp and sharp on the palate. Delicious and refreshing. One of my favorites of the festival. hayduke (5204) - Eureka, California, USA - AUG 16, 2008
So it is 6% or 10%? I guess we will never know. The draft pour came in an 8 oz glass a dark golden color with small white head and light lacing. Powerful nose of piney hops and some caramel malts. The mouthfeell was rich and slick, and it went down very smoothly. Flavor is mostly citrus hops, with a hint of fruit and spices. The finish is bitter. Love this beer. 8/16/2008. So this is Alpha King hopped as if it were Dreadnaught. Draught at the brewpub. Clear light golden with 1/2 finger off-white creamy head, good retention. Smells like a more tropical Alpha King with a tad less caramel and minimal pine notes. Flavor is a fair amount more grasy, though bitterness only peaked at a 4. I thought it’d be much more bitter, and I also am reminded of Gumballhead a bit (did they dump a bunch of Amarillos in here as well?). Light prickly carbonation with a medium body. Very, very good. pnista (1007) - Bloomington, Indiana, USA - AUG 11, 2008
On tap at Three Floyds. Absolutely headless golden yellow, still, clear. The nose is huge with hops. Gummy bears really. Fruity tropical hops, less pineapple than gummy bear. Maybe some small aspirin. The mouthfeel is still, but not watery. The flavors are absolutely popping. Big bad hops over a just strong enough malt, with a bit of caramel, but mostly not descript malty sweetness. The hops are again tropical fruits, but mostly gummy bears. Lingering hop bite. Lovely. I’ve love to see this bottled!
