COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A beer for the end of ages brewed with our friends in the band Amon Amarth. This Aesir Porter is a robust and hearty beer brewed with local honey and a small portion of smoked malt. When Heimdall sounds the Giallar-horn this is the beer to be hoisted by the gods in anticipation of the coming battle.

The best word I can use to describe this tasting is raw. That’s ’raw’ in a very good way. The nose is rich and unlike other porters that are tamed with malt, this one, even on the nose isn’t. The taste isn’t malted down either. Another rater described it as dark roast coffee and I agree. It’s right on the edge of being too bitter but hits the mark. I’ve had many other porters that brought on malt fatigue, becoming tiresome after a single pint, this one didn’t. I really enjoyed the entire bomber. Another winner from Three Floyd’s!

Poured from a bomber into a Three Floyds pint glass. Appearance is dark brown, nearly black, with a nice two inch head of grey foam. Aroma is dark roasted coffee with influences of honey and cocoa. Taste is dark roasted coffee beans with a slightly smoky accent and a touch of honey. Mouthfeel is thick with soft carbonation and a long finish.

Sample poured by a generous soul at Darkness Day. Inky dark black pour, little carbonation and light lacing and a sweet nose. Flavor was rich sweet chocolate, vanilla, oatmeal cookies and finished a little bitter. Solid.

Enjoyable. Lots of great roasted oats, coffee, malt notes in the aroma. The taste included much of the same, but with a noticeable hop presence and some citrus and grapefruit. I’d recommend picking one up.

Tasted in April 2011 on draft at the Three Floyds Brewpub. Pours opaque dark brown, with an average tan head, that slowly recedes to thin spotty lace. The nose is dark chocolate, coffee, resin hops bitterness, and roasted malt. The flavor is very similar, much hoppier than the nose, with nice dark chocolate, and roasted coffee. The body is medium with average carbonation, and a long chocolate and bitter resin hops finish.

Phone rate. 22oz bottle, no date from the brewpub last night. Held up to light, incredibly deep ruby with a well-sustained one finger tan head. Pine nose with moderate roasted malt and chocolate, some honey and light alcohol behind. Flavor is piny with some mod alcohol heat, still has some honey sweetness, otherwise the same dark malts. Semi-dry with bitterness at a 4. Creamy carbonation with a full body. Good.

Bomber purchased at the brewery poured in a snifter. Pours a dark chocolate brown with a minimal foamy tan head. The aroma is hoppier than I expected. It’s full fragrance of hops and smoke. The taste is bacon and pine hops. It’s a weird combination that doesn’t complement well to me. (I don’t like Black IPAs either.). I was expecting more malt or maple sweetness. There is a decent malt body but it’s not the feature. Well made but not my flavor.
