Bottle. Rating #23. Dark amber/brown with very little head. Light medicinal aroma, oxidation. Flavor is brown sugar and toffee, liquid toffee, but not overly sweet, really freaking nice. (2349) phaleslu (10239) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - APR 6, 2012
750 ml bottle shared by bsuedekum- thanks a ton, Blake! Bottle 150/261. Pours a hazed red-amber color with a small off-white ring for a head. The aroma is incredibly woody, with vanilla, toffee, dried fruits, and bourbon- definitely a bit of heat. Flavor of wood, vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, syrup, and mild spice. Malty, complex, and sweet. Some bourbon heat, as well. Medium-bodied, with a syrupy, chewy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Sweet and very, very woody. Huge improvement over the regular version, which I think is just decent. jckp64 (356) - St Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 5, 2012
Pours amber with a light white head. Aroma is caramel malts, vanilla and bourbon. Flavor is bourbon, vanilla, tons of caramel malts and a bit of oak. Light bodied and light carbonation. Pretty good beer overall. crosamich (433) - Twin Falls, Idaho, USA - MAR 27, 2012

Bottle (dregs)… CCB’s Hunahpu’s Day 2012… This beer rocks!... Cloudy caramel-colored ale with a small, fat-bubbled, off-white head. The nose presents integrated notes of sourmash whiskey, charred oak, caramel and coconut. Medium-bodied with a skim-milk mouthfeel and laid-back carbonation. The plush, complex flavor is a menagerie of caramel, bourbon, vanilla and toffee – just boatloads of malty greatness. The finish is not at all abrupt, but rather a slow-fade of the beer’s complex, delectable essences. Thanks go out to 50belair for sharing this excellent barrel-aged English-style barleywine!

Tasted on 1/7/12 from a yellow waxed and capped bottle purchased at the Three Floyds XV Anniversary party. Pours cloudy dark orange-amber with an average orange-tinted white head that leaves a nice collar of lace. The nose is very sweet malty maple, brown sugar, caramel, vanilla, coconut, and oaky cinnamon whiskey. The flavor is the same sweet maltiness, with the maple and caramel showing through nicely, and the oaky notes of vanilla, cinnamon, and whiskey on the back. The body is full with average, stinging carbonation, and a long malty sweet and oaky finish.
On tap this poured a deep red caramel toffee murky color with lots of bourbon in the finish, overall not bad but not really my style.CHEERS! drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 17, 2011

On tap at The Bavarian Lodge. Pours a murky reddish orange colored body with a thin, creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves a moderate lacing. Aroma is pretty solid. Lots of toffee, caramel, and bourbon up front with some vanilla and pruney dark fruits. A hint of toast and oak. Flavor is bourbon up front with lots of caramel, some sherry, and English toffee. Pretty fruity in the middle with dark fruits, vanilla, and oak. Bourbony fruits and caramel pick up at the end as this finishes with a hint of oaky heat that dries and leaves a lengthy aftertaste. Medium, tad bit sticky body with a light carbonation. Overall, a pretty solid barrel aged barley wine. Sweeter with lots of malts and dark fruits, but a really nice bourbon character. Glad to have tried.
