Draft sample at IBG Winterfest 2009.
Poured a clear brown color with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good nuts malt, coconut and citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Moderate to heavy bittersweet smooth flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
Standout brew. TearsforBeers (183) - Ohio, USA - FEB 1, 2009
Notes from the Indy Winterfest
Pours hazy light brown.
The aroma is odd and interesting - sweet, candy, cloves.
The flavor is weird, but good, I didn’t write more than that.
Palate is normal. Overall, an interesting beer. HonkeyBra (4044) - Lemont, Illinois, USA - JAN 31, 2009
Bad. Ass. Brew. On tap at the brew pub. Dark brown pour. Big, strong aroma. Flavor is pala santo wood, strong caramel malt and some alcohol. Bourbony and yeasty. Really great. TheEpeeist (3709) - Media, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 29, 2009
On tap at 3F on a chilly Sunday afternoon sandwiched between Bourbon Behemoths. Clear brown with a lacy white head. Nose is peat, wood and clove bubblegum. Medium light with a touch of carb. Taste is star anise, toffee, scotch and malt. Excellent stuff but so much going on it was hard to take it in. The waiter told me this was Robert the Bruce and three other brews aged in Palo Santo at Dogfish Head. railcat1 (702) - Kissimmee, Florida, USA - JAN 28, 2009
On tap 01/25/09 at brewpub this poured a dark brown and was a bit strong on the upside but as i tasted it mellowed out and was a refreshing beer to enjoy with hints of fruits and some sweet candies, bourbon and all kind of things going on with this beer overall age will do this beer well.CHEERS!

Sample @ Winterfest: Very much enjoyed the chance to sample this...pour was a dark brown, mostly clear. Just like drewbeerme before me, I got tons of coconut right off the bat on this one...other notes of dark fruits, belgian candy and some subtle roastiness. Much crisper than anticipated...flavor was big roasted malts, dark fruits soaked in booze and had a dry, woodsy hop finish. Good stuff. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 25, 2009
on tap at the brewpub. pours hazy amber with off white head. nose is loaded with coconut, just tons of coconut, some licorice and dark fruit as well. flavor is mostly coconut, wood, dark fruit, and spice. med body. this was almost undrinkable at first with this odd coconut dominated profile but after letting it sit I ended up enjoying more. egajdzis (6574) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 25, 2009
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2009 [Draft at the brewpub] Poured a lightly hazy amber color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of vanilla, herbal, wood, toffee malts, mint, and some citrus. Taste of caramel malts, wood, bourbon, citrus, vanilla, mint leaf, some nuts, and light alcohol in the finish. tjthresh (1873) - Greenfield, Indiana, USA - JAN 25, 2009
Sampled on draft at the Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest. Pours a fairly clear amber/brown with a little bit of tan head. The aroma showed plenty of hops with a bit of toffee character. I picked up some boozy bourbon notes with maybe some char or woody tannins. Very bitter. Medium body with plenty of carbonation. Dry finish. This was a interesting and fun beer, and certainly worth the time to seek out. Others will probably like it more than me.
