Bottle. Pours a dark, murky, brown/black with a foamy tan head. Aroma of soy sauce, smoke, alcohol, leather, some chocolate, sweet malts. Flavor follows the nose, overly smokey and heavy on the soy sauce taste. Interesting. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, alcohol on the finish. black with thin cream ring, lacing and oily cap. Booze dominates light gum-sweet esters and rubber. Front palate stings, burnt sugar dominates with light gum elements mid-palate, finishes some roast, softer toast and dough in the end.
Aromas of brownies, cocoa, dark roasted malts, cocoa, toffee, earth, pipe tobacco and slight piney hops. Pours black with a thin white foam and oil tracings on the top. Taste brings heavy earthy, ashy, chocolate, charcoal and cigar smoke upfront. Mid palate brings sweet milk chocolate, tree bark, roasted malts, dark grains and black licorice. Finishes smooth with residual hop oils, coffee oils, chocolate, licorice and raisins. Overall, a very unique take on a stout with a massive body and complexity. This sets the bar for non BA Imperial Stout. This is a real treat.

22oz bottle pours a murky brown with some spitty, beige head. Nose has some plastic, fragrant chocolate, pink peppercorns, brown sugar, marzipan. Flavor follows, marzipan, plastic, burnt chocolate, some smoke, pencil lead. Full bodied finish. jstraw (1967) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 31, 2016
Black with creamy, cappuccino head, decent legs / Rich, roast, winey nose of toasted grain, straw, cocoa, citrus / Medium to full body, significant alcohol burn, lush, chewy, good balance, thin finish / Flavors of roast grain, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, orange / Has a number of positive elements, but ultimately doesn’t measure up to the high alcohol content. radagast83 (8072) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - MAR 27, 2016
From a 22oz bottle at the DC tasting on March 25, 2016. Poured a dark brown color with a small tan head. Milk chocolate. Tasty roasted malts. Alcohol is there, but well masked.
