Draft at pub. Very dark, small tan head. Like many other beers from 3 floyds this thing has more hops crammed in than I thought possible. Strong hop aroma, strong hop taste. This clams to be an imperial stout, but it is a lotmore of the black IPA variety. Best way to describe this is a better version of black sun with a whole lot more hops. Very good.

UPDATED: FEB 24, 2017 Thanks Huhzubendah for sharing the bottle! Poured into a taster showing taster showing pitch black with half a finger of clean white foam. The nose is earthy and hoppy. The palate is full bodied and lightly carbonated. Flavors of hoppy forwardness. Hoppy bitterness.

(Three Floyds Blot Out the Sun) Bottle 650ml at home, thanks to rxeight! Served into a snifter, bottled on 15/1/16 Black coloured body, one finger of thick, dark beige head on top, with good retention. Aroma has light citrus, hops, resin, roasted malts. Taste has fruity notes of citrus, grapefruit, oranges, light chocolate and alcohol, roasted malts on the finish, hoppy bitterness. Medium thick body, good carbonation. Tasty, pretty close to a black IPA.

Bottle... Pours dark brown with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The aromatic highlights are charcoal and resin. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel with laid-back carbonation. The flavor features roastiness, singed malts and resiny bitterness. No real chocolatiness here - just roastiness. Moderate bitterness and alcohol warmth in the finish. Bottle shared by growler!

22 ounce bottle from Badger Spirits (February 2016), served around cellar temp or perhaps a bit above in a Maudite snifter. Not-quite-opaque dark maple to black with a largish, slow-diminishing maple-cream head and a bit of fine lacing...nose is burnt chocolate, grapy-vinous, a bit of resinous hops, licorice - pleasant enough but not particularly potent or exciting...body is chocolaty-sweet, lightly acidic, some faint lactic-sour qualities, with a finish that is still fairly sweet but a touch more bitter, woody, and at least a littler drier...mouthfeel is quite soft, carbonation muted but noticeable...very smooth and easy-drinking Impy with almost no alcohol noticeable. This is reasonably solid and Im glad that I can get it easily, given the unavailability to peons like me of Dark Lord - but at the same time, I cant help remembering every sampling Ive had of the latter, and good as this is, well...

Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with thin ring of bubbly tan brown head. Aroma of dark chocolate, tobacco earth, smoky roast notes, and a hint of booze. Taste is more of the same, good balance of deep roasted flavors, booze is well hidden. Thick and chewy, minimal carbonation, hint of oxidation, overall nice stout, as expected from them.

Aroma - has big alcohol, deep roast, acrid roast, and licorice. Appearance - the body is black, the head is 2" and beige in color. The head settles very slowly, an island of steady foam. Some alcohol cloying. Taste - has rich caramelized sugars, roast, vanilla, coffee, touch of anise, and Pacific Northwest variety hops. Exceptionally well balanced. Palate - full body, sticky texture, average carbonation, and a micro second of bitters and astringent that drops like a rock. Wow!

Bottle. Pours a dark, murky, brown/black with a foamy tan head. Aroma of soy sauce, smoke, alcohol, leather, some chocolate, sweet malts. Flavor follows the nose, overly smokey and heavy on the soy sauce taste. Interesting. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, alcohol on the finish.
