American Sour in wine barrels with blueberries

In order to survive in the 14th century one needed to be a force to be reckoned with. In Brittany, Spain and France this knight proved his mettle in battle. This tart blueberry ale was brewed in one of our 3000 gallon foeders in his honour.

Bottle, danke Roman! Cloudy red-brown, low head. Dry berry-skin aroma, cinnamon, vinegar, a hint fish sauce. Medium body, sour/dry/citric acid, puckering on the palate. Blueberry, light vanilla/wood, super dry, My teeth might have disappeared.

Dark red. Aroma is some yeast funk, dried apples, some other berries. Taste is much tannins, sour funk and lots of bitter stuff. Probably past its prime...

Bottle. Hazy ruby color with white head. Aroma is wine barrel, grapes, wood, leather. Taste is grapes, funky, tart, leathery; basically Balsamico without the sweetness. Puckering finish with medium carbonation. Excellent, at least at this age.

(bottle, danke koelschtrinker!) hazy bright ruby colour with a frothy off-white head. aroma of red grapes, redcurrants and vanilla, with a light hint of barnacles, some black olives, coconut and lemon juice. flavour is mostly cherry juice, lemon pips and custard, slightly phenolic, with some notes of physalis in the rather tart semi-tannic cherry pip finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation.

750 mL waxed bottle poured, with much thanks to Tcon for the share. Always a treat. A bright, glowing, reddish orange pour with a fading head. A very tart grape and blueberry aroma. Extremely sour impression to start. Flavor is a ton of sweet, but mostly sour blueberry, grape, and red wine notes. Lingering wine and tart berry finish. Very nice.

Hazed orange with a pinkish hue. Tart aroma. Tart but not too tart; vinegar character with blueberry notes. Notes: Bottle shared at Brian’s BBQ, June ’17

Bottle, from brewery. Goood aroma, kind of a weak good. Fairly tart, mildly sweet aroma. Clean brownish orange color no head or lace. Fairly sour flavor. Medium body, still smooth mouthfeel, fairly sour finish. Meh, this one didn’t make the grade overall. Aroma is mild to me. Appearance suffers from flatness. Mouthfeel is dead still. Oh well.
