saxo (19248) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - AUG 20, 2016
Bottle @ Danish Ratebeer Summer Gathering, fonefan. Small head with short duration. Color is black. Aroma and taste are rich roast malt, chocolate, coffee, rich chillies and hops. Light burning finish.

BuckeyeSammy (617) - Palo Alto, Ohio, USA - JUN 7, 2016
Spicy! Up front. Alcohol heat is there - really sweet dark chocolate malt screams through. Potash: umami all over. Soy sauce. Thick motor oil coats your throat. Didn’t disappoint. Opened on wedding night.

hackobock (4073) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAY 25, 2016

July 28, 2015. Bottle, tasting at jtclockwork’s, thanks for sharing!
Dense black with a tiny brown head. Aroma is sweet caramel, sugar, some dried fruits, some boozy cognac notes, coffee, chocolate, toasted coconut, and green pepper. Taste is a bit weird and very unbalanced, very sweet boozy and a bit too much chili heat from what tastes like pickled chilies. Full bodied, oily texture, almost flat.
The opposite of balance and drinkability...

650ml bottle

2012 vintage, red wax, bottle #786/817 - Pours pitch black with no head. Aroma of berries, roasty malts, molasses, spices, hints of wood, oak and hints of brandy. Taste is sweet, sticky and heavy with some soy sauce, spices, berries, ripe apples, brandy, wood, oak, molasses and syrup. Finish is sweet, heavy and syrupy with some hints of peppers, berries, wood and ripe apples. Quite heavy and sweet, not that much cognac here, but the chilies keep on warming nicely.

laiti (8507) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2016
75 cl bottle vintage 2012 (red vax) @ home. Bottle 786/817. Thanks Jason!
Aroma has some salty licorice and mild spicy tones. Flavour has mild chili burn, licorice, some coffee and hints of rubbery tones. Also quite strong berry tones. Cognac is quite well hidden, it apperars as sweet stickiness in the finish. Chili notes get a bit stronger after some sips. Rather thin for a 15% ABV beer – and hides the ABV very well. Yet the alcohol does not disturb. Not bad and nothing disturbing here, but nothing special either.

olio (10463) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 6, 2016
75 cl bottle. Bottle No 786/816. Red wax. 2012 vintage.
Pours pitch black color with a small beige head. Mild hops on the nose, dark chocolate, roast, cocoa, espresso and vanilla. Flavor is vanilla, coffee, brown sugar, very subtle with the cognac notes, syrup sweetness and more vanilla. More berries start to appear as the beer warms up, as does the chili, strawberry and black berries. Velvety smooth palate, carbonation is low. Nice but not mind-blowing.

j12601 (13027) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - DEC 10, 2015
Bottle 758/817 at James’s for a tasting with Hackobock. Pours a deep black with a thin tan head. Smells of burnt peppers, cocoa, chocolate. Medium bodied, sweet and full of raisins. Big spicy pepper, incredibly sweet. Long pepper, unpleasantly sweet. Long and sweet, big raisin and gross molasses. Too sweet and very weird. How did this happen? Terrible.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2015 Bottle shared with Phil and Jacob - Pours black tan head. Nose/taste of cognac, oak, hot chili pepper, compost, alpo dog food, soy sauce and molasses - full body. I usually love pepper imperial stouts. Not this one.
