This was a nice light pale ale with hints of hops and citrus, very drinkable and a good drinking year round beer.CHEERS! nuplastikk (6456) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 14, 2011
Draft at FFF. Bronzed orange color. Foamy, off white head. Medium bodied, some light fruity tones, but somewhat like an imperial lager. Very subtle and malt centered. Sugary and sweet, but still balanced and creamy. Some mild tropical fruit tones. Pretty well done. Block (3183) - Indianapolis, Indiana, USA - MAY 24, 2011
One of the lightest beers I’ve had from Three Floyds. Pretty light on flavor and overall very sessionable. The 7% is hidden surprisingly well for such a light beer. Good with a slightly skewed perspective as I’m comparing this to other Three Floyds offerings. DrnkMcDermott (3141) - Downers Grove, Illinois, USA - APR 23, 2011
Taster at Bavarian Lodge. Bright yellow beer color, lighter than most pale ales. Smell is hoppy, but not too strong, as in, am I sure this is a 3F beer? Thin ring of foam. Taste has light malts to help showcase the hop, which tends toward a delicate flower and a bit of spice, but not the herbal note the menu suggested. A finish of plum and pomegranate. On tap at Three Floyds last Saturday. Served in a pint glass.
Interested to see what El Dorado is like. Pours a slightly-hazed copper color with a moderately-sized white head and some good lacing as it goes down. The nose brings forward a bit of pale malt and some bread. Not all that much in the way of hop aroma. There is some very, very mild citrus and maybe a hint of floral character lingering in the background, though certainly not terribly prevalent. The taste falls along the same lines--there is some really generic malt up front followed by some bitterness and an alcohol bite. No real hop flavor to speak of.
Given the fact that Three Floyds generally makes phenomenal beers, I’m going to chalk this up to El Dorado being a dud. However, there is a bit of heavy booze that probably shouldn’t be there; not sure if this would normally be overcome by hop flavor and bitterness. Not a big fan of this one; should have had a glass of Zombie Dust instead.

Draft at Maria’s. Pours a light gold, sticky white head. Very clear. Nose is soft and lightly sweet. Floral nose. This is definitely not the type of hope I’d use in an APA. There isn’t anything offensive about it, it just isn’t worth using, imo. On taste, soft bitterness with some more floral notes. doughy malts come through as well. Some residual sweetness. Not really a fan, but not a horrible beer by any means. FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - APR 8, 2011
Draft. Pours a light golde with a small white froth. Aroma is surprisingly sweet an kind of gummy candy sweet. Some touches of citric and and other fruitiness. Flavor Starts with a soft fruit note that slowly picks up some more of that odd candy sweet character. Lotsof caramel and toffee with a slightly herbal finish. Medium body and a sharp carbonation. Thanks to Sean for this growler, drank from a snifter. This is very underwhelming, borderline not even worthy of a review. The ticker in me says proceed so I do... Pours a medium clear gold with not much of a head, ok lacing... A boring aroma that is to sweet for a pale ale, very generic corn and pilsner malt. Light floral notes try to help, but don’t do enough. Borderline BMC bad... The taste is borderline horrible, in between a pilsner and a lager, sweet but light bitter floral hops. No redeemable quality here, not worth drinking. hombrepalo (1972) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 14, 2011
Pint pour @ the brewpub. Pale golden pour. The nose is really fresh and herbal. Bright fresh hops aroma and some pale toasted malt. A little bit of soft fruity character. An almost rosemary-like herbaceousness. The beer is lightly sweet and as it warms up a kiss of fruitiness comes out. Pretty decent, unique stuff. patrick767 (4197) - fort wayne, Indiana, USA - MAR 10, 2011
growler sample - Pours golden with a white head. It smells of lemon and grassy hops. The flavor is mild to moderately bitter hops with sweet, light malts and citrus flavors. It’s mild and easy drinking though as others have noted one usually expects more flavor from 3 Floyd’s. Decent.
