Bottle 2007 @ 16th Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2007, Optal. [Thanks to Bager for sharing]. Clear black color with a small creamy virtually none brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, heavy licorice, notes of prune, raisin, coffee, chocolate, brown sugar. Flavor is heavy sweet and light bitter in a very nice balance with a long duration. Huge thanks to badgerben for trading and brewfiend for shipping, I owe you one Ben, this came out as the best brew of the night! 2005 vintage, orange wax. Pours dark brown to black with a lacing brown head. Slight alcohol burning in my eyes, roasted malty, slight smoked, minor toffee note flavour is caramel, roasted malt toffee sweet, quite nice. Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 14. 2007 bottle. Pours deep brown with red hue and no head. Slight eye burning alcohol, dried malty aroma. Thick mouthfeel, low carbonation. Coffee, chocolate and roasted malt in a quite thick fluid blend. Very intense without being overdone in anyway. Quite nice. 7-4-9-4-16
The aroma is powerful of coffee, chocolate, wood, and alcohol. The color is pitch-black and it has a brown head though disappearing. The flavor is very sweet with complex notes of malt (especially roasted), coffee, and bitter chocolate. It ends on a rather good bitterness -both from the malt and the hops. A very good beer. Bottle, vintage 2007. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty dark chocolate molasses and coffee aroma. Roasted malty oily molasses and dark chocolate flavor with hints of dark fruit and coffee. Has a roasted heavy malty molasses finish with hints of chocolate in the aftertaste.

2005 Orange Wax bottle. Sumptuous smooth imperial stout. Bags of soft fruit, cherry, raspberry, blueberry and blackcurrant. Milk chocolate, malt, molasses and a dry coffee finish. No bitterness. Fantastic! Lives up to the hype!

2004 Red Wax. Opaque black beer. Tidy coffee coloured head. Minerall nose with mild coffee. Smooth airy soft palate, viscous and sumptuous. Sweet molasses and coffee with traces of wood and chocolate. The coffee gets stronger - rich and tangy and creamy. Dry finish. 2nd half of the bottle was pure sludge!

2006 Gold Wax. Opaque black beer, tidy chocolate coloured head. Rich malty nose. Sumptuous soft palate. Rich coffee malt with a streak of dark chocolate. Tiny bit of molasses and soy. Trace of red berry fruits. A little warmth in the soft finish. Coffee aftertaste. Nice but not a patch on the 2005.

2007 Silver Wax. Smooth and quite mild dark malt! Traces of coffee and chocolate. Brief and mild yeasty molasses. A little Port Wine. Nice cherry and blackcurrant fruits. Good year!
OK, does it count if I’ve only tasted this as part of a recipe? Birreria Paradiso in Georgetown made a chocolate sauce for an ice cream Sunday out of this beer, and paired it with a Moloko Stout during a Three Floyd’s tasting given by two f the brewers. Bottled (2006 vintage, thanks marsiblursi, you’re the best!). Deep ambery colour (almost black) with small brown head. Aroma is roasted malts, some chocolate, dark dry fruit, coffee and burnt wet wood. Flavour is dark fruits, alcohol, vanilla and some wooden hints also. Really caramellish as it warms up a bit. Thick like oil, black as coal. No head, of course. Chocolate and fruit aroma. Raisiny huge maltiness, you nearly need a knife to cut it. Soft mouthfeel and a syrupy sweetness. Extremely complex. Rich, wonderfully flavourful and with the typical 3 Floyds softness, but on the sweet side for me.
