2006 bottle. Ah, the venerable Dark Lord. Glugs out of the bottle with the darkness and viscosity of motor oil that hasn’t been changed in 30k miles. An inch high whipped mocha head rises to the surface and sets up in the glass, clinging to it with an oily, almost bacon greasy ring. Damn, this is some crazy looking stuff. Aroma isn’t over the top, but I’m definitely picking up some big roasty malts, bittersweet chocolate and molasses . The coffee seems to hit more in the taste, along with some caramelized raisins, vanilla and rich maple syrup/molasses. There’s definitely a lot going on here. Mouthfeel is creamy, smooth and full bodied without next to zero hotness. An impressive stout for sure. Does it live up to the hype? Partially. But I think you can pick up some other impy stouts with 90% of the quality/characteristics of this one for far less $ and difficulty. Nevertheless, the Dark Lord is worthy of at least a pedestal next to the throne.

Bottle 2017. Pours dark, thick, oily, no head. Liquid chocolate, cocoa, plum, no alcohol at all. Very sweet, creamy, sticky, warming throat, heavy bodied. One of the best non-barrel imp stouts.

Dark brown, clear, no head, extremly oily and sticky. Aroma: molasses, alcohol, plums, vanilla, hay, chocolate, soy sauce. Heavy sweetness, full body, medium bitterness. Taste: molasses, plums, chocolate, dark caramel. Completly hidden alcohol. Overall too sweet.

Backlog. 2015 bottle (the best regular DL I’ve had). Cherries in aroma. Liquir. Sweet. Thick. Pleasant touch of booze. Kind of tastes like it’s barrel aged but it’s obviously not. Taste >> aroma.

Vanilla, bourbon, caramel, dried fruits aroma. Taste follows aroma. Alcoholic well hidden

2013 vintage
Thick and sticky with sweetness. Amazing fullness. So very sweet it’s almost unbearable. Molasses and malty caramely sweet thickness

Rocznik 2017. Trzeba przyznać, że wspaniale się prezentuje - oleiście i gęsto się nalewa, czarne, nieprzejrzyste, piana drobnopęcherzykowa, zbita, ładnie koronkuje i dość długo się utrzymuje. Aromat: silna wanilia, czekolada, śliwka i ..sos sojowy + żelazo?? Raczej średnio. uu ale to się pije - mega gęste i oleiste, faktura morduje, melasa, tony czekolady, wanilia, śliwka, wiśnie, kawa z mlekiem i jednak sos sojowy jest gdzieś tam wyczuwalny. Alkohol wręcz mistrzowsko ukryty. Bomba #teamcukrzyca. Świetne piwo, ale piłem sporo lepszych.

UPDATED: JUL 10, 2017 Dark Lord vertical notes: 2009 - roast and caramel. Some dark chocolate. A little rust from age. Black pour with ok head. Not what I’d call superior. Some soy 2010 - chocolate. Roast and caramel. Oily. Rust like 2009 but a little less. Still overrated. 2012 - sugar bomb. Mostly caramel and chocolate. Oily. A mess.

Slodka i gesta bomba aromatow i smakow w czarnym kolorze z niskim wysyceniem i goryczka na srednim poziomie. Ladna piana, alkohol praktycznie niewyczuwalny, dlugo by opisywac wszystkie cechy. Zdecydowanie MUST TRY!

Bardzo dobre piwo, co prawda bardzo słodkie, poza tym są posmaki stoutowe niezłe. Hajp za duży, ale piwo naprawdę dobre.
