   AROMA 10/10   APPEARANCE 5/5   TASTE 10/10   PALATE 5/5   OVERALL 20/20

Very very dark motor-oil brown with no translucence. The aroma blends potent tones of grape, chocolate, fig, cherry, and molasses. The flavor has an overwhelmingly rich distinction of molasses, chocolate/vanilla, grape, alcohol, and raspberry. The palate is insanely complex and perhaps as full-bodied as you can get. Overall, this is the quintessential "knock-out" beer...WOW, my first beer tasted to deserve a perfect score...I’m ready for bed...Special thanks to BBB63 for this opportunity and Eric for helping my ratings!!

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2018 Bottle at home massive thanks to Maakun. Burgundy wax/2015. Black with no head. Oh boy. So sweet. Pancake syrup. Honeydipped rye bread. Cinnamon, roasted paprika, bell pepper, maple syrup. Massive chocolate, toffee, chocotoff experience, light tobacco. Fluffy yet syruppy mouthfeel, black candyfloss. So sweet and smooth. Quite deep and strong bitter. Slight moldy, truffle-like plottwist. Alcohol trying to punch me but can’t get through the syruppy cobwebs of caramel jizz hanging over it. Nice. Full bodied and soft carbonation. Tripping balls at a Belgian waffle stand. Pretty sweet. SATAN SATAN SATAN HAIL TO THE DARK LORD!

Bottle shared 2015 vintage. Black with short lasting light brown head. Coffee, thick molasses, pancake syrup (the Dutch kind), alcohol, toffee, light spices, thick sweet toffee malts, palm sugar sauce, lots of black plums, vanilla, leather. Very very sweet and some bitterness. Full thick creamy sugary body. Like drinking some kind of liquid sugar. But yeah it’s pretty good!

UPDATED: DEC 31, 2017 Bottle at home, 2015 ed. Pitch black, really thick pour, beige creamy head. Intense (!) sweet roasted malty nose with sweetened espresso, cacao, marzipan, vanilla, candied figs, red fruits, boozy. Aftertaste lingers long and sweet. Biggest body ever, low carbonation, velvety soft and oily mouthfeel.

From Mar 2008 I got this in a trade with orbitalrOx. Thanks Don! 2007 Vintage: With a vigorous pour, I get a short lived 1" head of tan foam and no lacing. Color wise, it's a very dark brown/black with some reddish highlights but the first thing I noticed was how thick it looked during the pour. Wow. The smell is loaded with dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, caramel, cocoa, molasses....will it ever stop? ;^) The taste pretty much reflects the nose with the addition of a strong port flavour that I didn't really notice in the smell. What I find interesting is that all the flavours seem to take turns taking center stage, not allowing any single one to completely dominate. Sip after sip, sometimes the fruit shines through more, sometimes the Port, sometimes the coffee...you get the idea. lol. The abv is very well hidden because I don't get *any* warming during or after the swallow. I think that's amazing! Really thick mouthfeel and very lightly carbonated, it finishes mostly with a lean towards chocolate and cocoa so it's a nice pleasant bitterness that I get to enjoy there and in the aftertaste. Very nice RIS and I'm very pleased to have gotten the chance to try it. Bottom line: Super complex in flavour yet so smooth and easy drinking...hell of a testament to Three Floyds' brewing expertise. Highly recommended!

What more is there to say. Super sweet and dense. Very long melasis like aftertaste. Not that coffee/choclate brew as I thought it would be. Exceptional.

DL2017... Czarne, nieprzejrzyste. Goryczka niska, wysycenie niskie, posmak mlecznej czekolady i wiśni.

( bottle 2017 vintage) Aroma: cherries dipped in chocolate, soy sauce, raisins. Appearance: pitch black, small dense head. Taste: sweet, flavour of uber sweet chocolate, chocolate-flavoured milk, cherries, soy sauce and roasted malt. Palate: full body, creamy texture, low carbonation. Overall: Lovely milk chocolate-driven stout, perfect creamy body and balance, BA version must be up there with the bests :D
