This brew is so perfectly balanced that the monster abv% and hop content somehow mesh into a simple, citrusy explosive flavor with minimal indication of those elements that so often overpower IIPAs. This is on the level with Bell’s, Founders, the best IIPAs around.
July 2017 - Bottle shared at Leighton’s. Many thanks to LKS for sourcing/muling and to the team. As ’Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA’. My 400th DIPA rating. Almost opaque orange, translucent, foamy off-white head. Aroma is resinous, some sherbet and fruit bonbons. Body is smooth with soft carbonation. Taste is resinous, lots of rich sugary malt, orange zest, spicy finish with a light bitterness. Definitely an old school DIPA. Bomber sized bottle acquired at the brewery and consumed with dubtully. Beautiful orange almost copper color with a slightly off white head. Aroma is highly hop resin with pine qualities. Nice grapefruit citrus elements as well. Taste is an extremely well balanced effort with an upfront citrus rind bitterness and brightness leading into a big malty backbone of caramel and sweetness. Really hard to find a flaw. Mouthfeel is oily and really well executed. Alcohol present without overwhelming. Ends primarily with malty characteristics. Definitely worth seeking out. Nice creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly neutral, leafs, citrus peel, hops, worth, pine needles, caramel malts. Taste is dry piny, leafs, pine needles, moss, soap, hops, grass, bark, soil, dried fruits, sugar, alcohol. Longlasting bitterness, dry mouthfeel. Nice enough.
Great double IPA. Great balance between hops and malt. Initial taste packs a punch, but the finish is smooth.

Bottle shared at Hackney heights. Thanks to Leighton for collecting this whale. Pours gazed orange gold with a thin white head. Aroma is mandarin orange, caramel, toffee, pith. Taste is a proper old stool IPA. Taste is orange, caramel, candied peel and grain. Nice stuff

Served on tap at three floyds. Slight haze golden color with a white head. Tropical fruit hops aroma. Very smooth for an imperial. Mango bitter citrus malt. Nice balance.

Mango. Citrus. Pine. Orange Amber with a thick foamy white head. Slow fade. Thick lacing. Chunks of foam floating on the surface. Big fruit. A hint of candy sweet. Thick chewy mouthfeel. Resin. Bitter finish with the faintest hint of booze.

Bottle into a wineglass showing moderately filtered caramel brown with a finger of quickly dissipating clean white foam.
The nose shows moderately intense notes of mango, peach, and light tropical fruit (pineapple, kiwi) on a strong caramel malt backbone. Exactly as the description.
The palate is light to medium bodied and well carbonated Moderately intense flavors of mango, peach, and pineapple with hints of kiwi with a strong yet restrained bitterness followed by another resurgence of fresh fruit on the palate. Alcoholic and hoppy zest all around the palate but still very drinkable.
