The look: Light golden-brown body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Nose is toasted and a bit nutty. The toasted and biscuit malts provide a nice backbone. Flavours is roasted peanuts and some almonds in a light caramel coasting, toasted bread, distant fruity notes and some coffee. The coffee flavour is not one of roasted coffee beans. It is actually more reminiscent of an old cold cup of black coffee. Grassy hops to finish. I’m trying to be objective and rate this as a session beer that should be enjoyed in large quantities. I don’t know who was in charge at Three Floyds but the Extreme Beer Fest (where I had it) was the wrong place to serve that beer. I love R.E.M. but in a speed metal festival they’d sound kind of gay.
Pours clear brown with some white head. Good malty munich nose with a punch of hops. Flavor is very much malt dominated with a bit of bitterness. Just a little bit of esspresso character. Full body.

Imperial draft on tap at FFF Brewpub (Munster, In). Pours a nice dark amber with golden edges and medium hazed with minimal white hapead that still laces. Aromas are nice maltiness, ligh coffee and biscuits, with a decent hoppiness, and mellow sweetness. Initial is inviting, biscuity malts coupled with light coffee grounds, carmel and light vanilla, nice mellow sweetness, and an underlying light floral hoppiness. Nice, sessionable, but good flavor. Not my favorite personal brew, but built well with nice supporting hoppy bitterness for the malt load.

On tap at brewpub, nice take on the style. Description says the malts were replaced with coffee in the brewing process, and it shows. Aroma is strong coffee and candy, with a hint of cream. Flavor is dominated by the coffee, but with lots of malt and hops as well. The pine of the hops works really well with the coffee, and candy is found throughout. tap at three floyds... mostly trasparent apple cider brown pour with a thin wispy white head.... aroma of burnt malt and grains as well as a touch of coffee... sweet grainy flavor accented by charred malt. mild carbonation with a decent mouthfeel. this one didnt quite come together for me. On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear light brown with no head. Delectable aroma of coffee and hops. Strong coffee flavor up front, but mellows to sweet finish. On tap at Three Floyds and served in a half pint glass. This beer poured a lighter brown hue with a thin head of tan bubbles that somewhat lasted. Just a bit of lacing was left behind. The aroma contained some smooth coffee notes, a touch of chocolate, and also some caramel. The flavor was dominated by cold coffee, along with some nuttiness and caramel. Not very roasty or bitter. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and had moderate carbonation. Very flavorful and drinkable. If you aren’t a coffee fan, skip it.
