Draft at Three Floyds. Pours a hazy gold, some amber at the center. Sticky white head that persists. Nose is more Belgiany than Shark Pants. Notes of citrus and peach, but then lots of estery banana and phenolic pepper and clove. Really clashes. The yeast in suspension also lends some astringency as well. This isn’t a horrible beer, just not particularly great. Again reflects the deficiency that Three Floyds has with Belgian styles, in my opinion. Meh. Served in a tulip glass at the brewpub. How cool to be the first to rate a Three Floyds beer! And a handsome beer it is. Orange with some effervescence and a nice thick foam on top. Cool lacing. It is cloudy. A nice pine nose with yeast and caramel underneath. That yeast, pine, and caramel are also tasted along with some nice citrus that shows up midglass. A nice dry bitterness compliments the sweeter malt. Oranges are tasted and they kind of appear out of nowhere. Tartness comes very late. Bitterness grows as the beer warms and hops are more assertive, too. One word: Delicious!
