UPDATED: JUN 14, 2003 Clear bright light copper color, small white head, sweet light malt aroma, kind of nutty. Light balanced malt and hop flavors, some hops noticeable in the finish, clean. This pale ale is very light in body and on the tongue, a little watery, otherwise has some good flavor, a good session beer.

Mostly clear golden apricot. Small frothy white head. Steady carbonation. Weak aroma of floral and citric peel hops and light caramel and hay. Soft, lulling and light on the palate. Underlying Pac NW hop base and semi-sticky natured toffee and hay maltiness. Light bodied. Dry with a mild toasted toffee sweetness. Kind of boring but ends with a surge of citric hops and crisper, firmer bite to it. Strange but good.

A good ale, close to it’s cousin the Alpha King, but with a less pronounced hop presence. Could be a bit fuller in the body.

The kinder, gentler alpha king? This one maintains a decent hop presence, but it’s a quiet strength. It is just a gentle pale, a tad sweet for my taste.

3/12/03: bottle. lightly golden color with no real lacing to mention. i am no expert, but I think that the hops smelled like sentinel. pretty bitter and hoppy-as i expected with notes of orange and citrus. not as stinky as usual for this type of hop.

big rocky head, golden color, a good beer. The two Three Floyds beers I’ve drank both had a slightly similar taste to them, a little British feel. Alpha King is better though.

ultraspank (867) - Alverca, Lisboa, PORTUGAL - FEB 14, 2003
Refresing nose of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, resin, burnt malt, and flowers. Pours from the bottle a sparkling medium golden. The average sized bone colored head is average lasting with good lacing. The satisfying flavor starced with an edge of sweetness, followed by a middle that is heavily acidic with a quenching citrus sourness. The burnt heavily bitter finish is long. The medium lively body is dry and finishes very astringent. Not as good as their Alpha King, but then again - what is?

Pours a nice clear golden color with a small white head. The aroma is hoppy with a mild sweetness from the malts. Medium bodied and the flavor is quite nice. Malty sweet, but not a lot, with hops adding a little twang in the finish. Very smooth and clean.

Clear, dark golden. Ok head. Strong aroma of floral hops. Smooth citrus flavors riding along a fairly weak malt backbone. Smooth but thin in body with lackluster hoppiness finishing things. Not bad, goes down like a champ and is pleasurable to drink. These guys make good beer.
