Tap at 3F brewpub. Barley and rice malt flavor with a hint of lemon. Clear golden yellow with small head and nice lacing. Sweet rice and barley malt flavor with moderately bitter lemon peel finish. The rice description scared me but this was very nice. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - JAN 29, 2011
Pint on tap at Tribes (Mokena, IL). Pours a darker gold, well hazed, a frothy whitish head films thicker, dies smaller, but laces well, like clinging soap. Aromas are lemon and soapy hops, floral and a touch perfumey mix with big grassy hops. Touches of grainy bread, rice, and cereal grains. Light maltiness behind a moderate hop showing. Not a bad nose for a lager. Initial is lighter bodied, bringing soap and grassy bitterness up front. Touches of florals, light lemon and a touch of lemon cookie. Dry and bitter is light, earthy grassy and floral hops take the lead, with grains, bread, some rice behind. Simple, mellow malty sweetness gives way to an impressive hopping for a smaller beer. Although, I don’t love Sorachi, and it’s a bit of a strange hop for me. Dry and earthy, big grass and florals with spurts of lemon. It’s a nice craft lager, preaching a solid hopping and showing that they can be quite tasty. Just not my particular hop of choice. Pretty good for what it is, but ultimately the rating suffers in my book because of the hop choice. nuplastikk (6289) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 14, 2011
Draft at FFF. Can’t believe I paid 6 bucks for this. Sort of like FFF made a domestic lager. Still fresh, enjoyable, more exciting than bullshit lager but still orbiting insipidity...with FFF world class execution. Standard beer made excellent. Thorpe429 (5035) - , Illinois, USA - APR 20, 2011
On tap at the brewery. Served in an imperial pint glass.
Reviewed as a Japanese Rice Lager. This is not an American Pale Lager, as it contains Japanese rice.
Pour brings a light golden beer with a nice white head and a pretty good amount of lacing. The nose is a bit grainy and also brings a light amount of citrus and lemon. Sorachi Ace really works well here.
The flavor is slightly bitter with a bit of grain. Hop flavor comes through a bit but isn’t as prominent as the nose. The taste is pretty good, though doesn’t quite stand out like it could. Good light and crisp feel with a finishing bitterness I’m enjoying. Drinks fairly well, but I think one glass is enough.

On tap at 3Floyds. Golden pour with a nice white head. Aroma of strong, mango and minty hops. Flavor is somewhat bitter, with a sunny delight fruit thing going on. Some citrus and earth going on in her as well. Nice, medium bodied, lots of carbonation. Great beer. Enjoyed it.

2/19/2011: Three Floyds Gold Leader... Aroma: Nice hop profile; the Sorachi Ace hops are definitely distiguishable and dominate; yeasty with some weak malt. Appearance: Mazy marigold color with a fluffy white head on top that leaves puffy lacing marks on the glass. Flavor: Mild sweetness followed by a soft citrusy bitterness; weak toffee-ish maltiness. Palate: Body is medium-light; airy mouthfeel. Overall: Good and very sessionable!
Pint (draught, 4.5%) at The Louisville Beer Store in Louisville, KY. Rating #23 for this beer.
From December 2010 tasting notes. On tap at 3F brewpub. Malt, light citrus hops. Gold with small white head. Malty, musty flavor. Medium body. chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
Growler big thanks to Nerd, poured into my Narke tulip...Deep straw gold, decently looking, an off white head really good retention, but light lacing...Aroma of light rice, sake, lager yeast, a little skunk a little skunk finish...The taste is hopped sake, unique and tastey, Really interesting, great for a lager, slightly above average over all. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2010
Three floyds gold leader. Small sample at three floyds... Pours a semi-
opaque golden apple cider pour with a thin soapy white head... Citrus
and grassy bop bent aroma with some backing grains. Hops take a
precedence over the grain aspects... Fruity hop flavor takes hold
first which then move quickly to a grassy bitter feel. Semi-sweet at
the onset but again, quickly turns bitter which extends well through
the finish. Body is on the lighter side, but there’s adequate flavor
to keep things interesting.

Super unique perfume, spice, and herb combo in the nose. Bright, crisp. Leaves a dry, spruce and pine sharpness on the palette. Peculiar neat beer.
