Had on tap at FFF over holidays. Poured to a dark cocoa brown, withtan head that disipated fairly quickly and left okay lacing. Although nose was a pleasant chocolate-caramel mix, the body was very thin and watery, and the taste a little too much on the sweet side. In the end, I felt like I was drinking a cold, watered down Swiss Miss.
Not one of FFF’s best.
Draft at Brixie’s. $4.50. Deep brown in a shaker glass. After several minutes during which I was doing something else or other, it still shows a small layer of foam. Smell is a bit nondescript, offering little clue to the beer itself. The taste, though, shows it to be a hearty, fresh dunkel, but minus the yeast bite of fresh craft lager. well, now I get a little yeast smell after all. Dark malt abounding fer sher; fewer hops than usually found in a Floyds beer. In this case, the beer is a straight shot at the definition of a dunkel lager style. User29624 (1683) - - FEB 14, 2010

Draft at Three Floyds. Pours a quite dark brown with light tan head. Nose is quite roasty, some cocoa sneaks through. On taste, it is pretty clean, full bodied, though it has a roasty note that feels out of place for the style. Tap at 3f... Pours a dark caramel cola brown with a creamy off-white head ... aroma of bready roasted malt with a hint of chocolate...Flavors are very consistent with more of a caramel and chocolate malt presence. Really nice creamy mouthfeel.

On tap at Three Floyds. Pours clear brown with a medium tan head. Malty and nutty aroma with caramel and subtle bitter hop notes. Served in a dimpled mug. Offers up some very familiar dunkel aromas and flavors that remind me of visiting Germany and drinking dunkel for the first time a few years ago. Sweet, malty, with a crisp finish. This is easy to drink, not over hopped at all, and is a pretty genuine German dunkel creation.
.5L draft at Three Floyds. Pours dark brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma is of malt, chocolate, wheat, and yeast. Aroma is very malty, and very inviting. There is a also a faint hop character in the aroma. Taste is very malty, but not too malty. There is also chocolate, whest, banana, and yeast. Has a slight underlying hop flavor, that surprisingly isn’t killed by the malt. Lingering grainy taste. Lingering taste of dry chocolate. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. It drinks very easy. [A] Smells malty. Wheat, hay, chocolate, some coffee, banana, lager, and a touch of smoke.
[A] Very dark brown pour into dimpled Stein. $6/.5L Short lived creamy soda head. Hard to see through, but still transparent.
[F] Wheaty base, covered by chocolate, coffee. With a crisp, semi-citrusy hop. ALMOST reminiscent of Perkulator. Not quite. Been awhile.
[P] Medium to light bodied. Very crisp and clean roasty finish. Drinkable.
[O] Quite a session. Good all around. Not overwhelming in any aspect. I would almost take this over Rob the Bruce in bottles.Cause its usually malty swamp water by the time I get it, anyway. Not a huge beer. But well done. Strykzone (7362) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - DEC 22, 2009
StLHops tasting. My favorite of the beers tasted. This one was pleasant and unassuming. Lots of malt based aroma with cooked brown sugar. It is a medium brown color. Flavor is oatmeal cookies throughout. Throw in some fruit. A late hop taste is tart citrus. Nice.
