Amber with big, foamy, beige head / Understated nose of smoke, salami, and herb / Medium body, lightly sweet, creamy, with very good balance and dry finish / Mellow flavors of ham, smoke, Swiss cheese, and rye spice / One of the best smoked beers I’ve tried. Ham on Rye.....Tastes like Ham on Rye. Seriously. Very nice smoked brew with a very different taste! I hope they start bottling this stuff. Miver (609) - Silver Spring, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 7, 2008
On draft at Three Floyds. Poured amber in color with a small beige head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked rye malts. Tastes of rye bread, smoked malts, smoked jerky meat, with some mild spices. I love smoked beers and I’m becoming a big fan of rye malts. I could have drank this all night. It was really a pleasure to try. djcoolhark (21) - South Bend, Indiana, USA - AUG 8, 2008
What a cool beer. Tastes like a rye beer with a sweet smoked ham aftertaste. Upon ordering, the waitress told me to get a small glass, which I’m glad I did. A good taste, but not something I could drink a lot of. boozedude (2228) - Des Moines, Iowa, USA - APR 7, 2012

UPDATED: OCT 18, 2008 i was very apprehensive the first time i came across this. smoked flavor in beer is nothing new but ham? i dont know how they did it, but the ham is present not only in the flavor but also aroma and even mouthfeel! the palate is the real star here, slick, slimy and even a bit greasy like ham off the bone thats been resting in the fridge overnight. rye is upfront in the aroma and flavor but the smoked character isnt to rauchbier levels, its not subtle but its certainly tasteful and classy. beginning to end, one of the most unqiue and enjoyable beers ive ever sampled. had this in late spring 2008 and again that fall on tap at FFF. Smoke and rye. The name says it all. Nicely done. Great smoky aroma and finsih. Nice medium body. Enjoyable. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - JAN 2, 2010
On tap at Chumley’s - Lafayette, IN. Pours a clear darkened amber, with a superfine off-white head. Campfire smokiness. Pig bacon, sweet almond bark, and candied smoked fish. Flavor is decent. Browned bacon, burnt pecan wood, and fired wood-oven pizza. Nice browned thick malts underneath the smoke. Great balance with some juicy hops on the finish. Nearly enough smoke intensity for me, so this gets good marks. crossovert (12917) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 10, 2012
Definitely geared towards a bacony taste. Not as good as a good Rauchbier, but a solid experimental offering. It went down quickly. MiP (15667) - Sønderborg, DENMARK - MAY 12, 2012
Draught. Smoky aroma. Hazy amber colour. Small white head. The flavour is nicely mildly smoked. Quite clean with a dusty maltiness. Well-balanced.
