4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tap at brewpub. Not sure what a Hessian ESB is stylewise, nor did bartender, but the beer won me over. Bready, citrusy aroma with a moderate head and cloudy tan/orange tone. Great looking beer. First sip presents with an earth citrus tone with slight tangerine sweetness. Not overly bitter on the back but bitterness present. The beers abv is not obvious with it drinking more like a session beer. Areally solid and pleasant offering.
Tasted on 11/12/11 on draft at the Three Floyds Anniversary party. Pours hazy orange with an average white head that leaves a thin collar of lace. The nose is fresh orange with a very lightly smoked and spicy hoppy aroma. The flavor is orange juice and smokey, bitter hops. The body is medium with average carbonation and a medium smokey orange finish. holdenn (2127) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 21, 2012

À la pompe au pub: Couleur orangé trouble avec une belle mousse. Agrumes, tangerine avec des notes de blé dans le corps. Amertume insistante avec un fini sec poivré. NobleSquirrel (3439) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JAN 31, 2012
Draft at 3F. I’ll echo Gerrit and this is definitely old-school Floyds. Pours a cloudy copper with fluffy offwhite head. Nose is interesting. Fruity and sweet, floral and a strange kind of syrupy note as well. Burly malts and caramely. Spicy hops. Different. On tasting, it is pretty boozy for 6.7 and super resiny/sticky. Also distinct sweetness on the palate as well that is a bit distracting. Big bitterness, but not super aggressive. Really interesting beer, but not perfect. Kinda reminds me of a smaller Blackheart. hollardustin (330) - Indiana, USA - JAN 29, 2012
On tap at 3Floyds. Pours a cloudy orangish golden with a thin white head. The aroma is light bready malts with some hints of floral and citrus hops. The taste is malty with notes of floral, citrus hops and spicy yeast. Not bad.

Premium Bitter/ESB? No, but this is the Three Floyds I remember!!! Doesn’t matter what the style designation... they just brew something super hoppy and call it a day. Tastes like BrooDoo used to taste. Super green hoppy, huge spruce, bit of orange, light backing biscuity sugar, super green, candied green hops. Very tasty, bitterness comes at the finish but just a tad. Ha! This is the Floyds I remember! Pours a unclear murky dull orange, yeasty or just hops? Strong assertive astringent bitterness... but it is overshadowed and somewhat balanced out by the sweetness. Tmoney99 (14965) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - NOV 19, 2011
Draft. Poured clear light copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate earthy citrus hop and small sweet malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium bittersweet flavor with a medium spicy bittersweet finish of moderate duration. Solid drinkable beer.

Sample @ FFF 15th Anny. Pours a hazy dark golden/light amber color with a medium sized white head that dissipates into a thin film. The aroma was orange and lemon citrus up front with some mild caramel and biscuity malts at the back. The flavor was more orange and lemon citrus, caramel, lightly toasted biscuits and a moderate level of bitterness. Pretty drinkable, but nothing that really said have another.
