Pours red with some whisps of an offwhite head. First thing apparent in the aroma is spicy rye, followed by some candied fruits, strong citrus and resiny hops. Deep cherry and earthy malts. Flavor is dry and the rye is very apparent. Earth, pine, and a bit of mandarin orange envelope lush cherry and toffee malts. As a lover of rye beers, I’m impressed with how far they take the rye in this beer. The rye and the hops make this beer moderately bitter. The rye also brings out a bit of saltiness and umami. Nice creamy mouthfeel with enough carbonation to make this extremely drinkable. Another great beer in this series of collaborations between Mikkeller and Three Floyds. pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 6, 2010
UPDATED: AUG 10, 2010 Three floyds ruggoop. Tap at 3f... Pours semi-hazy medium orange
toffee brown with a medium light fluffy beige head... Sweet orange,
tangerine, and sweet pineapple notes in the aroma. Not too much rye in
the nose... Flavors are sweet upfront with a burst of rye and those
combination of fruits gathered from the nose. A little spicy at first
and then smoothens out. The fruity hop presence is enjoyable and the
rye gives it a bit more depth and dimension. Smooth in body and not
too heavy on the palate. Carbonation is active but not overly so. Nice beer.

Given this another point overall...this is tasting great right now juicy sticky hops and a nice rye twist.
Draft at the brewpub (Munster, IN). Made the trip out for this, and making it into the Top 5 Raters at FFF. I’d like to thank the little people.. Namely Drew for being to lazy to rate any FFF lately. Pours a well hazed copper, reddish glow and full, a frothy moderate beige head cakes well and laces pretty nicely. Aromas are a melange of citrusy grapefruit and lemon hops, florals, grass, mellow rye bread and caramel malts, toffee, toast, biscuits, dandelions and weeds. Well balanced, hop forward. Initial is fuller bodied with a big grapefruit and lemon hop bite, fresh and hop forward with grass, weeds, florals and light pine. The malt body comes through, adds body, with rye bread, caramel, biscuits. Lively citrus bite really sticks with me, balanced and hoppy on the palate, dry bitter finish with a light lingering maltiness, touch of warmth grows. Certainly a well hopped Rye Wine, and very different approach but very FFF. Delicious. The rye sneaks in a bit more. Very nice sleestak (226) - Williamston, Michigan, USA - AUG 19, 2010
On tap at FFF. Pours orange-red with a foamy, but fleeting, head. Aroma is crazy citrusy with a strong caramel and rye background. Taste is grapefuit and orange, bready and spicy. Really great. Finish highlights the rye followed by a light burn. Thick and velvety mouthfeel. Yum. ClubGonzo (5685) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 29, 2010
Bottle from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen. Pours a deep hazy orange body with a small, off-white head. Aroma is raspberries, peaches, apricot, honey melon and hints of spruce. Very fruity and nice. Taste is pretty much along the lines of the aromatic profile, with the exception of added kiwi and citric hints. Fresh and drinkable. A great brew from two great brewers, and although the third installment in this series is very good, I still think Hvedegoop has a tiny lead. Make no mistake though, these are all very good beers.

Bottle. Pours a nice cloudy dark amber color with a frothy beige head. Aroma is quite hoppy with grapefruit and peach, along with some breadiness in the way of dark bread (rye bread), and some caramel malt. Flavor is fairly hoppy with alot of grapefruit and peach along with some slightly resinous hops. I also get the rye bread notes along with some caramel and dough. the body is medium to full with a creamy and slightly dry mouthfeel. Overall a great American styled Rye (Barley) Wine! cloudy orange, smooth large offwhite head.
very nice fresh sweet hoppy aroma.
flavor is sweet malty, sweet flowery hoppy, nice bitter balance, grapefrut, pine. konstifik (573) - SWEDEN - JAN 23, 2011
Hazy golden with almost no head. Caramel, toffee, ryebread and overripe fruit. The rye gives an interesting touch to this otherwise quiet typical american barlew wine. olsvammel (7257) - Örebro, SWEDEN - JAN 27, 2011
Bottle at O’Connors in Uppsala. It poured an orange reddish liquid without a head. Sweet and fruity flavour with dried fruit. Smooth mouthfeel and low amount of carbonation, thick body. Very nice american barley wine, hoppy and sweet. Marsiblursi (3076) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - FEB 26, 2011
(bottle) Pours amber white a small head. The aroma is citric and fruity with notes of mango, apricot and grapefruit up front. Lots of resin, pine and green hers as well. Bread, toast, spices and caramel from the grains. Soapy on the nose. The flavour is near medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light acidic. Citric, piny and fruity hops alongside spicy/bready rye and toasted caramel barely. The mouthfeel is round and soft with light carbonation. Good balance between the malt and hops on the finish. Medium to full bodied.
