Bomber from Sendiks in Brookfield. Pours an unclear orangey-copper with a bit of a foamy white head. Terrific lacing. Aroma is citrus, citrus and more citrus. Some grain and some spiciness as well. Taste is of sweet caramel, cereal, fresh sweet fruits and grapefruit. Somewhat resinous. Much more balanced than the nose. A bit rough with some alcohol presence. A definitive hop bomb and very tasty! Finishes bitter and quite dry with, what I would say is "the rye", kicking in. Three Floyds comes through again! Draft at FFF. Pours a glowing gold, hazed with a sticky whitish head. Nose is big hops. Fresh and floral with big citrus. Juicy and fresh. Minimal grain in the nose. On tasting, big bitterness that is balanced with more of the juicy hop character. Big enough malt backbone to support it. Super fresh and hop dominant. Fantastic stuff. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 16, 2013
22oz bottle although had previous times before at the brewpub from prior visits... Pour from the bottle yields a mostly solid non-transparent orangey brown consistency and topped with a fluffy lingering barely off-white head... Aroma of juicy semi-bitter tropical fruit and pithy citrus components. A hint of metallic surfaces before fading out completely which was reassuring - that an an intermixing of fruit cocktail comes to mind. A blast of pine and general dank undertones evolve late and lingers on for a bit. That note of metallic eventually comes back into the equation which was for the most part a letdown... Flavors follow suit mostly with semi-sweet juicy tropical fruit hops front and center quickly turning assertively bitter mid-palate and extending on through the finish. Just above medium bodied, somewhat full, with the right dash of carbonation. Some hints of aspirin through the middle. Malt seem to fall to the wayside but there is a spicy quality to it from the rye persuasion most likely...all in all, prob prefer the lightning more so than the tiger. A little too much firepower for me while the lightning had more of a drinkability aspect to it with a the hop assertiveness that I really enjoy. pineypower (3350) - Ocean County, New Jersey, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle shared thanks to Dave. Pours an attractive amber color with a white head. Aroma is of citrusy/pine hops, light grainy rye and a touch of caramel. Taste of nice resiny pine/citrus hops, sweet grainy rye notes, light toast and another solid dose of bitterness on the finish. RIP Dio......solid beer. rxeight (3337) - Illinois, USA - SEP 14, 2012
UPDATED: NOV 27, 2012 New bobmber from the brew pub, released last week. They say this is the double version of Rye’d da Lightning, and to think of Dio while drinking. Pours a bright opaque sunset orange. Aromas of the signature Three Floyds citrius hops - Pineapple, apricot, and mango. The taste is pretty similar but you finally get a bit of the rye in there. I really think the rye is a bit toned down compare to the Lightning version, although when I tried the Lightning, it was a few weeks old so the citrius notes may have quieted down a bit. A really good DIPA, I would say this is basically a rye version of dreadnught.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a crystal clear, golden colored body with a finger-width, creamy and frothy, off-white head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is grapefruit citruses and pines with a bit of a juicy sweetness. Floral tropical fruits, some rye spice, and a light bready pale malt sweetness. Flavor is similar. Big grapefruit pines, juicy resins, floral tropical fruits, and a nice rye spice and lightly sweetened malt backing with some caramel notes. Finishes dry, citrusy, and moderately bitter with a nice rye spice and slight caramel. Lengthy aftertaste following a medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a really solid DIPA. Tons of fresh, bitter, juicy, citruses with a nice rye spice and light caramel sweetness. Nice one. Damico (3146) - Royersford, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 1, 2013
Pours pretty thick orang sunrise with a creamy tan head. Aroma is juicy, lemons and rye spice. Hops may have faded a bit, but they are present bringing some tang and citrus and then the rye bready flavor comes in on a full, thicker body. BOLTZ7555 (3028) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - MAR 14, 2013
Another gem. 24-karat pour with hints of crimson, scarlet, and tangerine topped with an ivory foam. Candied orange, mango, papaya and guava accompanied honey-baked biscuit and spicy black pepper. Think of citrus jam spread generously across toasted marbled-rye bread. Tasty...the breakfast of champions! drsordr (2928) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - FEB 26, 2013
Bottle pour from alexsdad. Orange, amber in color. Lots of citrus hop on the nose. Initial grapefruit hop flavor with some spiciness from the rye. Nice long bitterness. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - JUN 26, 2014
Pours a nice darker orageish golden color with white head. Rye spice, pine, citrus, and some grass on the nose; follows onto the palate. The rye really comes through on the finish, nice spice to a DIPA.
