UPDATED: APR 29, 2012 Bomber. Clear, slightly orange copper with a small white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Lots of orange and pineapple, floral hops. and a touch of rye. Clean sweetness upfront with a lot of hop flavors and moderate bitterness shortly after which fades, leaving a rye finish. Well balanced with a lighter body more akin to a Zombie Dust, and only a mellow trace of rye on the finish. As a matter of fact, I would consider this to be a rye Zombie Dust.
A: Amber Hue, Passes Some Light, White Head Ring, Great Lacing
S: Rye, Sweet Malts, Green Tea
T: Rye, Green Tea, Malty
M: Great Carbonation, Medium Bodied, Mildly Malty

Bottle: Hazy orangish straw, thick, a bit dirty, large frothy sandy head, beautiful lacing. Soft sweet citrusy nose, pith and peel,a touch candied, faint caramel and marmalade. Soft hop bitterness up front, of the citrus variety. Smooth, pale caramel malt, a touch of tea leaves. Body and mouthfeel are moderate. Citrusy finish, not bright but very apparent. Light tea leaves, and finally a light touch of Rye. I can only imagine how good this was when it was first brewed, it was still very tasty and well put together after all this time. Bottle at James’ tasting at his apt on 01/30/2013 with a bunch of other bros. Thanks to whoever provided this. Light, medium amber pour with an even head. Juicy hop aroma, but the palate is noticeably softer/more muted in terms of hte hop profile. Gentle/blunted but still fresh and floral. Slightly (not overly) grainy. Hazy red/orange with a fully off-white head. Herbal, mild spices, and grassy pine needles in the nose. Taste and mouth feel is resin. Almost clear gold - amber beer. Good pale cream coloured head. Nice nose of malt cream and mild Nelson Sauvin hops. Palate is light and slightly soft with mild fine carbonation. Lovely light hops - floral notes with Nelson skunk and Nelson grape. Mild rye spice wounds things off. More Nelson grape and a little minty coolness. Lovely beer. Effortlessly drinkable and more effortless quality from Three Floyds.

Bomber into pint glass. Has that signature 3 floyds hoppage that you find in zimbie or alpha but a kick of rye as well. Compared to Rye da tiger almost the same amount of rye but a lot less hops in this one. Also tried when fresh, better at that point. A: Pours a hazy copper color. The head is a one finger white color with unimpressive retention.
S: There’s a really nice tropical fruit profile from the hops - which I’ve now come to expect from FFF. In particular, it’s melon, grapefruit, and cantaloupe that I notice aromatically. There’s a lot of rye malts that come through in this one.
T: The first thing that hits the palate is mango, melon, and grapefruit hop flavors. Rye comes through strongly afterwards, and some slight herbal piny hops in the finish almost gives off an onion/garlic vibe when backed up with the rye flavors. A bit on the rough side - both in texture and flavor.
M: Like I said, a little rough and heavily textured. It’s not really dry per se, but the tingly coarseness doesn’t mesh well with the slick, lingering finish. Low carbonation seemingly makes the texture come across as being thicker than it is.
O: I’m totally blaming palate fatigue as to why I only think this is just good. Going from a quartet of sours, a cucumber beer, a sweet vanilla/coffee porter, and freakin’ BCBCS to a rye pale ale isn’t the smoothest transition - but this beer still came off as a little rough. Gusher when opened, messy, but not a huge deal. Looks reddish copper, with a pretty good sized head. Smells good, with toasty malt aromas combined with dank, sticky hops. Flavor is exactly what I like - hoppy, sticky with a dry, crisp finish. I could drink a lot of this. Thanks to queenholly for the trade!
