on draft at FFF - dark pour with virtually no head - light aroma - full of taste - a bit strong as implied by the ABV - I enjoyed but there are better by FFF.

UPDATED: MAY 1, 2009 Sample, on tap at FFF Brewbup. Very Black, not much aroma, some light choc. Slightly dry and smoky taste. There is a good choc. component, but the taste was overwhelmed by alochol. Pretty rich, but lacking complexity. Not bad.

draft at CSAH the other night. pitch black, minimal head, pretty thin. gobs and gobs of chocolate, a bit of coffee too. surprisingly alcoholic even at a very cold temperature. but pretty damned good altogether. pretty light-bodied.

Miver (609) - Silver Spring, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 10, 2008
Draft at the brewpub. Poured dark brown with a tan head that left little lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate malt, and toasty. Tastes of roasted coffee, toffee, toast, with some light alcohol warming in the finish. Listed as an imperial Baltic porter, I really enjoyed this selection. Very nice.

Draft at the brewpub. Deep black color with a nice dark brown head. Huge aroma of coffee and roasts. Nice nose. Flavor is smoky coffee and roasted chocolate and malts. Profound taste with a thick mouthfeel. Little kick of alcohol. Excellent, excellent porter. Too bad they wouldn’t let me take any of this brew with me.

On tap at the brewery. This black ale poured with a clinging tan head. The flavor is very rich and tasty with lots of coffee. I really liked this one.

Tap at the brewpub. Pours a very thick black with brown at the edge. Nose is rich and sweet with coffee and burnt toast at the front, along with a kiss of hops. Upon drinking, very nice, full body that I wasn’t expecting. Sweet and rich, with a floral note that comes and goes. Coffee flavor/roastiness is evident. Very good beer.

FunkyBrewster (1518) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 7, 2008
Pours a black color with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and chocolate with a bit of a coffee liqueur. Flavor starts out very smooth and mellow with a strong chocolate presence. Some coffee notes arise towards the finish. Very malty and creamy and mildly sweet throughout. Very little carbonation, and easy to drink without being overwhelmed by any single aspect of it.

heemer77 (5317) - Urbandale, Iowa, USA - JUN 16, 2008
On tap at the Three Floyds brewpub. The body was black with an orange and light brown head. The aroma was strong chocolate with some oranges. There was also some light coffee. The taste was milk chocolate with some bread crust. There was also some definite black tea. Pretty good.

SQNfan (591) - Wheaton, Illinois, USA - JUN 10, 2008
On tap at the brewpub: This poured black in color with the head completely fading away. The nose begins with coffee and then fades to an herbal/fishwater/funk that was not enjoyable at all. The palate was soft which was surprising given the alcohol level. I just couldnt get past the fishy smell in the nose.
