This beer is getting lost in the shuffle of the ’black IPA’. Very malty and not as hoppy. No real indentity, It feels like a hoppy stout that misses on the hoppy part. Good, but not what I was looking for. Ratman197 (15212) - Arvada, Colorado, USA - DEC 1, 2011
Bomber poured a clear reddish brown with a lasting tan head. Aromas of roastiness, earthiness, skunk bud, grapefruit and pine. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roastines, earthiness, light grapefruit and a hint of pine with a smooth moderatly bitter lingering roasty finish. MartinT (10037) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 9, 2011
My Bottom Line : chibuck (3513) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - NOV 4, 2011
Black grapes, earth and toasted cereals are met by sustained leafy hop bitterness in this slender Black IPA.
Further Personal Perceptions :
-A frothy sheet of foam covers the dark brown.
-Wooden hop resins harbor cologne-like impressions.
-Roastiness is also present throughout.
-A strange phenolic touch (rubber eraser?) roams by once in a while.
-All flavors are nicely levelled.
-That is one ugly label...
bottle... dark brown bordering on black, huge medium tan head, great retention and lace, great looking... subtle but very pleasant aroma, light roasted chocolate, a little pine on the back... the taste isn’t as balanced or rounded, harsh alcohol, more charred than roast, needs a bit of more malt, the chocolate is gone... great start but turned out average yespr (47039) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - OCT 24, 2011
From tap at the brewpub. Pours dark brown to almost black with a creamy, tan and lasting head. Aroma is roasted malty and light hops fruity. Bitter, fruity and roasted malty. Light breadish and roasted. Ends dry, bitter and dark malty.

Pours mahogany-tinged black into a shaker. Off-white head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Chocolate, resin and grapefruit aromas. Thin with dank resin, chocolate and a lasting grapefruit finish. SrSilliGose (3331) - pouring bus, New Brunswick, CANADA - OCT 16, 2011
tap. nice clean roast. bright citrus, floral and pineapple fruit character hops. nice balance. tasty. milky, medium body. some light chocolate and coffee. enjoyable. coldbrewky (1730) - Hippetown East, New York, USA - OCT 10, 2011
Spectacular nose of fresh abundant hops after pour. So much so I was looking around my basement to see if I had missed a rack or two from the harvest this year. Slate black with some light at edges of glass. If you close your eyes and ignore the color of the brew the IPAness comes out in vibrant form. Centralized choco-caramel ephemeralness. Moderate body with a quick finish. Even and enjoyable but not outstanding in its field. DaSilky1 (2606) - San Diego, California, USA - AUG 27, 2011
Cask @ old toad.its dark...almost black...off-white solid head. Hoppy nose but hard to detect anything specific. Flavors are roasted malt and hops...what a surprise for the awesome style of black ipa. Nothing different here folks...as usual. Black ipas are the hardest to rate as they all taste the same...and I drink this across the table from a ratebeerian named blackipa....fuck.my.life. zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 23, 2011
Bomber. Pours opaque ruby brown black, thin off white head. Aroma is hoppy, smoky, malty. Flavor is smoke, pine, anise, hops, roasted nuts; all well blended. Nice, dry, bitter finish.
