Bottle shared at RBSG. Pours black. Tan head. Nose/taste of hops, roast chocolate, caramel and black malts and slightly resinous herbal hops. Medium body. boFNjackson (4201) - Portland, Oregon, USA - MAY 21, 2011
Bottle... Poured near black, opaque with a light tan head that retained nicely. Good body, the hops really played mostly in the finish with their floralness and pine qualities. Moderate carbonation with some roasted malt tones. Bready, cookie dough sweetness, cardboard muskiness. Quite balanced, decent, glad that the east coast can represent well in the CDA style. blipp (9590) - La Mesa, California, USA - MAY 18, 2011
Bottle. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Roasted malty aroma with piney and herbal hops. The flavor has roasted malts, floral hops, light herbal notes, and a very light ashy note. Not bad. j12601 (13028) - Poughkeepsie, New York, USA - MAY 6, 2011
Pouring at TAP NY. Pours a deep black to brown with a thin beige head. Big citrus and chocolate roast notes. Nice roast and more chocolate. Smooth and roasty, long grapefruit with more chocolate and roast on the finish. craftycarl21 (2339) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAY 4, 2011
Draft at Hamilton College’s Little Pub. Dark brown pour with a smallish tan head. Aroma holds nice piney and grassy hop, along with a touch of caramel and cinnamon. Flavor is pretty tasty, but unfortunately the roasty malt character doesn’t quite mesh with the bitter hops. As a result, the flavor is hoppy and fairly tasty, but the flavor is non-distinct. Close, and a good try, but this keeps it from being a solid black IPA.

2011-04-29. Very dark brown black body with a modest beige head. 3+ Flavour is interesting, very light roast and dark malt, modest roast throughout, lingering dry malt and hoppy bitterness. 6+ Sweetish dark malt aroma, very light roast and mild hops. 6+ Average plus palate. 3+ Okay, hops are less prominent than hoped for. Very dark with very faint orange highlights. Decent tan head, nice retention. Chocolaty + pine nose. A unique combination that was very aromatic and I thought worked well. Hefty full taste in palate, coffee and roasted notes in palate. This is really good. beerbill (3619) - Laurel, New York, USA - APR 14, 2011
22 oz. bottle. Pours a clear deep reddish brown that is barely translucent with a thin-moderate off-white head that lasted through three-quarters of the glass and left a layer of foam with each sip. Pleasant aroma of pine with a few notes of malt picked up as well. The flavor is mild malt followed by some mild-moderate hops bitterness that for the most part lacked flavor. Nothing bold about this beer. Medium bodied. JB84 (649) - Kitchener, Ontario, CANADA - APR 12, 2011
Pour super dark ruby dark ruby garnet nice tan head. Aroma of roast, chocolate, malt sweetness, citrus hops, pine and a touch floral. Taste quite roasty, strange off taste, citrus hop, partially watery. thin to medium body mild carb. Overall kind of watery with roastiness not the best balance.
