Excellent Black IPA! THe color is so dark but the taste is so rich. Nice and hoppy. Can clearly taste the crisp dark hops on this one. maxwelldeux (4374) - Snohomish, Washington, USA - AUG 29, 2013
Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a moderate light tan head on it. Nose has some nice roasting elements to it with a decent amount of floral hoppiness coming through. Taste is quite bitter, but with a very pleasant roasty smoothness to it. Easy drink and fun Black IPA. Cybercat (5831) - Georgia, USA - SEP 7, 2014
Pours a rich, appetizing, dark-chocolate brown that lets in a snip of daylight at the very bottom and has a very thick and rather persistent light tan head that pillows. Roast malt aroma has notes of wood hops and caramel. Hops, mostly woody, dominate the flavor, while roast malt and caramel and a little hint of chocolate serve as backup singers. Smooth texture has decent fizz and thickness, and leaves an earthy, smoky finish of woody hops. Go ahead, get skunked - but PLEASE designate a driver, or call a cab. Or get skunked in your own home, or in a bar that’s convenient to MARTA. yesyouam (1016) - Fairport, New York, USA - APR 1, 2011
Three Heads Skunk Black IPA is a very dim brown-- almost black. It’s topped with a big, frothy cappuccino head that has supreme retention and lacing. It has a loud pine and grapefruit aroma, perhaps a touch of roast or ash. It’s medium-full bodied, soft and slick. The dry finish leaves me a little thirsty. It has a very cascadian flavor: pine and grapefruit peel. There’s a touch of roast at the finish. It’s on the bitter side, but I like that. Coffee is in the aftertaste. This is really good representation of the style. It’s fun to drink. Hammy78 (973) - Dundas, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 9, 2011
Bottle purchased at the Village Beer Merchant in Buffalo. Pours a pitch black opaque colour with an off white head that recedes to a thin layer, minor spots of lacing. Aroma is hoppy, almost smells like dope. Tastes is quite bitter, sweet. Really nice mouthfeel, a little numbing. Awesome.

On tap at the Ale House in Vestal NY
Pours a surprisingly clear dark brown with ruby highlights when held to light. Creamy off white head shows moderate retention. Smells of pine and cirtus with hints of chocolate and coffee. Not quite porter like in the nose but the roast is definitely there. Pine and resinous taste mixed with a hint of chocolate and roasted grains. Medium body and carbonation level with a resiuos creamy mouthfeel. I really liked this one. Great Black IPA that almost ordered another one to my table. zebracakes (1339) - Washington DC, USA - AUG 23, 2011
Bomber. Pours opaque ruby brown black, thin off white head. Aroma is hoppy, smoky, malty. Flavor is smoke, pine, anise, hops, roasted nuts; all well blended. Nice, dry, bitter finish. hayduke (5203) - Eureka, California, USA - JUN 10, 2014
Courtesy of a trade. Poured black with a beige head and a lot of sticky lacing. Nose is roasted malts and pine hops. Medium plus in body with a smooth creamy mouth feel. Flavor is a good balance of chocolate malts and pine hops and a good bitterness is there. The finish shows the pine hops and some licorice. Really delicious beer. gripweed57 (2452) - Hamilton Square, New Jersey, USA - MAY 16, 2014
On tap at High Street Grill in Mount Holly, NJ. Nose is a combo of roasted malts and piney hops. Upfront, flavor is bittersweet roasted malt and more pine hops. A unique contrast that seems to work nicely. Soft silky mouthfeel. Finish has notes of licorice and chocolate. Nicely done. Lubiere (13899) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - FEB 23, 2011
A dark reddish copper brown IPA with a thin creamy moka head. In aroma, nice floral citrusy hops over soy sauce and caramel malts. In mouth, a smooth sweet chocolate malt with resinous floral hops, citrusy, quite nice and enticing, oily mouthfeel, rich and smooth. On tap at ROC Empire Brewfest, Feb. 19 2011.
