December 2017 - Tasting in Hackney. Bottle shared with big thanks to Dave. As 'Three Tuns Old Scrooge', 6.5%. Very dark brown with a red hue, foamy brown head leaves the lightest lacing. Aroma is airy, earthy. Body is light and frothy with tingly carbonation. Taste is spicy, dusty, earth and dry spice, touch of corn, quite resinous into the finish. OK just not my thing. UPDATED: APR 6, 2016 Bottle from trade with minutemat, many thanks! Pours dark brown with a cream head. Full flavoured, pretty full body at just 6.5% abv. Roast, clove, figs, prunes, light smoke, toffee, molasses, fruit cake, ginger. Starts out fairly sweet, turning into a long bitter finish. Very nice. Bottle thanks to Shrewsbury swap with minutemat.
Appearance - dark brown to black with a hint of red and a lovely fluffy head.
Nose - smoke, toffee and then dried fruit. Generally molasses.
Taste - more molasses, then liquorice and then the smoke note kicks in and runs through to the finish. There’s a residual burnt raisin note that lasts for ages.
Palate - molasses, liquorice and burnt toffee.
Overall - it’s rich and gnarly and the challenge is rewarding. Actually it’s nice to drink a barley wine that isn’t just about marmalade. MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - DEC 28, 2015

sepia, oily cream ring. Watery brown malt, thin nose with light burnt sugar, light gum. More roast and chocolate up front, thin, burnt with light sugar in sticky finish. Not a barleywine, more a brown ale.
Pours a watery brown with some fading, brown head. Nose has nougat, toffee, cherry, red wine, orange soda. Flavor is better, tobacco leaf, malt, bread crust, a little fruit cake. Sweet finish.
