Tap pours clear straw gold with well retained off white head and good lace. Aromas of grains, light hops and cal ale yeast. Medium bitterness, flavour light medium body, med carbonation finishing mineral-like, yeasty and a touch dirty grassy from dry hopping

ALLOVATE (3030) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2017
On draught @ the brewery, East Brunswick.
50 IBU batch, and it showed. Big grapefruit, passionfruit and guava nose matched by nuances of hop leaves, raw buds, camphor, eucalypt and bay leaves - this was a hop soup. Orange gold and just shy of bright with a loose, lasting white foam that messed up the glass. taste is similar to the nose. Aggressive, bitter and lasting. The malt is chewy, lightly sweet but overall powdery and dry in back aiding the peaking bitterness. Chunky, solid body as it warms further. Lightly vinous and punching above its 5.2% ABV. Eucalypt, camphor and pine match the grapefruit and raw hop notes. Balanced to the ’palate wrecker’ side of things but oh, so drinkable. Impressed by its controlled aggression.

Pours an amber colour with a reasonable white coloured head. Minimal aroma of freshly cut grass with a slightly bitter taste. A reasonable session beer.

Growler. Clear gold with an inch of white head that lasts well. Aroma of lemon, mandarin, spices, tropical fruit, hay. Light bodied. Hay and light bready sweetness, mandarin and lemons, apricot, some light tropical notes, pepper. Dry finish with moderate to high bitterness. OK, refreshing, but not very engaging.

Take the blandest beer you can find, add lots of hops. That about sums this one up, though they are some good hops, I’ll give them that. Other than that, it’s nice to look at, but where’s the length?
