Draft @ brewery. Sweet rose geranium, citrus, and light funky Belgian yeast aroma. Hazy honey gold with a huge white head. Rose geranium, light white pepper, and honey-like malt flavor. Medium body, soft carbonation. I really, really enjoyed the perfumey floral notes in this one.

I hate to rag on a brewery from my home state but I think Thunderhead missed the mark on this one. The body felt far too thin (even by wheat ale standards) and the head was basically nonexistent. I will say that the color was nice, though. Aroma wasn’t the worst but I think it reveals some of the issues I had with the taste. The notes of spice were heavy while the fruit notes were just strange. Call me a minimalist, but I just didn’t think this wheat ale needed so many competing flavors - especially when those flavors were somewhat unrefined.

On tap at the brewery. Pale golden, light hazy appearance with a lacy white head. Aroma of spices, herbs, hops, coriander and orange peel. Similar flavor, adding wheat malts, fruity zest and light bitterness. Average body. My favorite of the 10 I tried.

Part of a flight at the brewery. Pours a hazy orange with a bit of a head that doesn’t stick around very long. Lots and lots of orange peel on the nose. Flavor is incredibly sweet, with no hint of the abv however. A little sticky, a little cloying. The 4 oz sample was enough for me.

Tap @ Thunderhead. Pours a slightly hazy orange appearance with a white head. Herbal, potpourri, spicy, floral orange aroma. Kind of a weird spicy, big floral, grassy, light cleanser, a little bitter flavor. Sort of weird beer.

SledgeJr (3577) - Omaha, Nebraska, USA - JUL 5, 2010
Sampled at the 2009 Great Nebraska Beer Festival. Pours a hazy dark gold with a white head. Has a bubblegum and juicy fruit aroma. This beer is sweet and fruity with notes of pears and apples. It has a mild tart finish.
