Nice black colour, nose is of maple and toast. Flavour is heavy on the malt and sweet without being cloying. Very nice beer! johndoughty (5521) - cheslyn hay, West Midlands, ENGLAND - AUG 24, 2008
Bottle. Poured flat and first impression was that sweetness dominates. Quite powerful and left no lacing. Quite malty and more like a brown ale than a bitter.
Definitely different. thebeertourist (5189) - Oslo, NORWAY - AUG 29, 2008
Bottle. Pours dark copper brown with steady tan head. Good nutty aroma. Sweet flavours initially, hints of raisins and nuts, semi-dry finish. Smooth and appetizing, no
sharp edges. Probably more of a brown ale, could even be mistaken for a bock on a dark night. Not bad. diabel (1721) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - SEP 17, 2009
Bottle Clear, deep mahoney body. Lightly brown head. Quite ok aroma of strong malts, coffee, some hints of hops. Moderately bitter, moderately sweet flavour: quite ok, just somewhat watery. OzarkElmo (319) - Poplar Bluff, Missouri, USA - NOV 4, 2009
Pours a very dark chesnut, nearly black with light creamy head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of dark caramel, nuts, coffee and roasted malts. Not much evidence of smoke on the nose or in flavor, thank you for that! Slightly sweet taste with a hint of bitterness in the finish. Very smooth, very nice body to this brown ale beer. Not sure why it is considered an ESB. Enjoyable because it is so well balanced - not too heavy towards anything. Cheers!

Bottle. Pours a clear dark brown colour with a nice big creamy light brown rosky head leaving a very nice sticky thick long lasting lacing. Aroma of well toasted malt, caramel, bit of chocolate and coffee. Very good mouthfeel. The flavour has a good well toasted maltiness with a mild bitterness, some nuttiness, chocolate and bit of dark fruits. A very good ESB indeed! Bullit (4675) - Burgos, SPAIN - OCT 21, 2008
Brown colour, small tan head. Aroma has nuts, caramel malts and dark fruits. Flavour has roasted malts and red fruits. Smooth and extremely drinkable. This one stands out! PorterPounder (8226) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUN 28, 2009
Athens, Ga - Five Points Bottle Shop - 500 ml bottle. Dark chocolate pour with a frothy khaki colored head that sticks around quite a while. Nice aroma of coffee and wort. Same coffee essence carries over to the flavor with some root beer in there as well. Definite nuttiness pervades though the back end. Solid, thick mouthfeel. Excellent. jbrus (4989) - Delft, NETHERLANDS - DEC 30, 2009

Raisin and toffee aroma. Ruby colour, beige head, good lace. Sweet, light bitter, fruity, hint of licorice, hint of toffee. Easy going and soft.
[Bottle] Pours a deep brown color with a cap of tan head. Aroma of caramel malts and hazelnut. The taste is heavily nutty, with vanilla and molasses as well. Sweet caramel and floral hopping throughout. Decent body. Low levels of fine carbonation. Dry and lingering sweet hazelnut finish. Not what I expected. Reminded me in many ways of a lighter Rogue Nut Brown. Tasty and well balanced!
