COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mainly bottle conditioned. Has been seen in cask as Very Nutty Black.

Higher abv version of Thwaites mild, which has been sold under various names.
Previously sold as Very Nutty Black
Normally brewed solely for the home market, Daniel Thwaites has broken all the rules with an export strength version of its award winning ale. The same great well rounded flavours and nuttiness lie within but bottles will now leave Lancashire destined for the Far East (Leeds) and even remote areas of the southern hemisphere (such as Watford).

Jan 2013 - room temp bottle of ’Nutty Black’. Dark mild beer. There is some ’nuttiness’ in the flavour, light body and slightly watery, slight smokiness too. A bit of a cheap sharpness to it that I associated with my under-fermented home made porters, but only to a small, hardly noticeable, extent. Overall, it’s alright but nothing to write home about.

from an english shop in Neuchâtel - black beer with a foamy beige head; aroma of cacao and chestnuts; moderate malt backbone, overcarbonated and light acidic, quite dry and gently bitter, more notes of nuts and cacao in the finish

Bottle. Pours slughtly hazy very dark ruby / copper brown with airy light tan head. Very mild aroma of malt, with touches of caramel and yeast. Sweetish flavour of the same, with notes of roast and nuts and faint fruity hints. Nutty Nd slightly roasty aftertaste. Reasonable for the style.

Bottle conditioned. I love the fact that the bottle says it’s export strength at 3.9%. Rock on! Smells of chocolate and vine tomatoes. Tastes of slightly roasted, melon juice. Very soft in the mouth. Not bad.

Very enjoyable, and another mild! Some choc and not much nut. Dark loveliness. Great lunchtime brew. Yes. See Dom consume imminently.

imdownthepub (15332) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - JUN 17, 2013
Bottled, 500ml from Waitrose, Witney. Black with cream head. Thinner than the cask version, there is still a darkly roasted malt though but masked a little by a wet cardboard type flavour, some fruitiness. Lacks some depth. Average.
Earlier Rating: 6/8/2010 Total Score: 3.4
Bottled, 500ml from Morrisons in Banbury. Black with brown head. Smooth and fruity flavours, some liquorice and hints of chocolate amalgamate into a very decent bottled mild. Easy drinking while retaining flavours.
