Growler thanks to MrChopin. Filled 15 hours before consumption, fridged one hour after filling. Pours a deep inky black with ruby highlights. Weaker, beige head. Nose has interesting roast, blueberry, dairy/cream, chocolate. Taste is very dry, bitter, roasty/ashy with cocoa powder, coffee, lemon bitters, berry juice, herbal, sage. The beer is dark brown with a small, wispy, fleeting head. The aroma offers oak, roast, chocolate. The flavor is odd. A bit of nail polish and harshness throughout. Roast and chocolate are losing the battle. Mediocre at best.

Growler. Pours clear black with a medium, frothy light tan head, short retention with light. Aroma is light chocolate malt, cookie and biscuit malt with earthy hops, figs and dates with light oak notes. Flavor is light hops and bitterness, malty sweetness with dark fruity esters and a sweet finish. Medium body and carbonation.

On tap at Tired Hands. Pours a moderate brown color. Nose is really nice with milk chocolate alongside a very faint roast, then backed by earthiness, faint acidity, and a nice wine touch. Flavor packs some moderate acidity alongside oak and wine notes, plus a backing earthy saison. UPDATED: MAR 1, 2013 Deep brown body, thin medium brown head, no lacing. Nose shows beautiful vinous and dark fruits, a little oak and tannic acidity. Flavor is almost all red wine, with some odd chocolate and roasted malts. Doesn’t quite come together. Medium bodied, light acidity and sourness, gentle carbonation. Draft at the brew pub. Pours pitch black with a medium sized tan head. The aroma Is fairly sour with a big grape and cherry note. The taste is sour grape, cherry, oak, charred wood. This is incredible.
