Pour: Completely hazy, dark, dark brown. Nearly black. Two fingers of creamy, khaki head form. Head recedes rather quickly, and doesn’t leave too much lacing.
Smell: Big red wine presence up front, followed by some really nice tart pear and lemon juice. Lots of roasted malts and light brown sugar complete the nose.
Taste: Wow. Again, red wine really comes out strong up front, but immediately mellows in a clean tart lemon juice. Some pear skins. A really nice tart funk throughout. As it warms, some clean toffee and a strong oakeyness come through, as well a a light peppery spiciness. Finishes dry, tart with lemons, and a smooth roastiness.
Mouthfeel: Incredibly drinkable. A really, really nice creamy mouthfeel. Carb is quite velvety. Surprisingly refreshing. Finishes dry,
Overall: This offering from Tired Hands is really something special. Similar in some aspects to Civil Disobedience #4 from Hill Farmstead. Tired Hands best beer yet. Well done.
Strong unique scent, dark with nice head. Solid and lingering body and sour funk. Overall a great example of an unique brew. jredmond (8518) - New York, New York, USA - DEC 29, 2012
Draft at tired hands. Pours a black body with brown lacing. Aroma is sharp, tart dark fruit, sweet malty character, sour fruits and vinegar. Mouthfeel is silky with notes of tart dark cherries, wine, brown sugar, yeast and spice. Nice interesting saison. reggiedunlop (3726) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 28, 2012
Pours black with a creamy medium mocha head..nice retention and lacing.. Aroma has tart wine notes...cherry and chocolate creeping through. Flavor has rye and dark chocolate with a hint of sour cherry, earthy and oaky notes...a bit of bold roastiness. Mouthfeel is medium and silky and the finish is roasty/tart cherry and dry. Much more tart/soury than the base version while retaining the rye/roastiness of the base. Really awesome. PhillyCraft (7739) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 28, 2012
UPDATED: MAR 28, 2013 Sample at the Brewpub. This one was just blended while I was there. Poured a dark purple color nearly black with not much head or lacing. Notes of rye, sour cheese, grapes, currant, acidic and spicy yeast. Mouthfeel is ultra silky on this saison. Medium bodied. I need to try this one again when it is finished and more carbonated. Cheers Re-rate, tried again in March 12, taste much better. moved up a couple notches
