Cask handpull, The Larry (JDW), Nuneaton, 13/11/12. Solid, rounded, lemon-zested tang. Orange peel and pepper over biscuit crumbs. Hints of Sorachi-like old shrivelled tangerines and anise. Grass and herbs in the blender. Good tangy, husky, perfumed but bitter linger. Thick-collared gold draped with milky lace. Ripe tang of satsuma jelly, perfumed coriander on nose. Bit heavy on the perfume but hard to leave alone..

Hazy golden colour with an off white head that leaves a fine lacing. Medium to light body. Moderate sweetness. Mild hoppy and light fruity aroma. Grain, light citric and some fuity and grassy notes. Low carbonation. A bit rare to call it porter.Rune (12738) - Tromsø, NORWAY - NOV 12, 2012
[On handpull at The West Kirk JDW in Ayr, Scotland]
One-third pint measure from cask at The Penderels Oak, High Holborn. Patchy surface to an unclear copper coloured body. Dry fruity and pale malty aroma . Notes of plums and honey to the taste buds added by earthy malts. Very dry, bitter ending. Alright, however a bit disappointing (JDWs real-ale festival, London 01.11.2012). wheresthepath (2332) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - NOV 8, 2012
[Gravity cask at the Back of Beyond (JDW), Reading] Gold, negligible white head. Really not a porter. The only hint of any porterishness (is that a word?!) is a creamy mouthfeel/ Other than than, it’s just a bland golden ale - a hint of lemon, perhaps, but little more than that. Well below Titanic’s normal standards. maeib (8749) - Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, ENGLAND - NOV 8, 2012
Cask conditioned handpump Moon On The Square Northampton 01/11/12. A golden beer with an off-white head and lace. The aroma has creamy vanilla notes. Tastes flowery with more vanilla. Herbal notes. A nice beer where there is good hoppy notes too. I have no idea why it’s called a golden porter and glad that RateBeer has the sense to class it as a golden ale of which it’s a pretty good example.

Tasted this in the Salt Cot, Saltcoats (JDW) in November 2012. Crystal clear pale amber in colour with a thin off white head. Crisp note of green apple in the really short aroma. Thin but refreshing mouthfeel and good lacing. Pale malts give a tart citrus fruit base with pink grapefruit and kiwi to the fore. Floral hop resins impart a dusty aftertaste with a wheaty cereal note full in the mouth. Finish is just about veering on the malt side with pink grapefruit still present in the palate. Not convinced that this has the characteristics of a traditional porter though, tastes more like a traditional Golden Ale to me! imdownthepub (14547) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - NOV 5, 2012
Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white head. Initially fairly tart and fruity, sour plums perhaps, it does dry a little, but still a little sweetish. It’s ok but I wouldn’t rush back. Leighton (21232) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 2, 2012
Cask at Hamilton Hall, JDW, London. Pours clear, yellow-gold with a wimpy, white foam head. Mostly crisp straw, some lemon rind, a bit of pale malt sweetness. Some astringency. Light bodied with carbonation. Moderately bitter to finish with light grass and citrus rind, some white sugar. Meh. berkshirejohn (6491) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - OCT 31, 2012
Cask at the John Russell Fox (JDW), Andover. Pale amber with a ring of white head; rich apricot jam aroma; heavy, grainy, body, slightly sour with some fruity flavours - peach perhaps - and a trace of honey; some light herbal hops laregely fail to add any bitterness, leaving a biscuity finish. Satisfying, but also disappointing. leaparsons (10541) - Wigston, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - OCT 29, 2012
Cask, Highcross, Leicester. Golden with an off white head. Aromas are lemon peel with apricot and toasted malts. Woody with spiced tea and hints of petrol. Flavours are sweet peach followed by grapefruit and lemon bitterness. Quite gritty on the palate with hints of coffee and dark chocolate. Fairly interesting.
