On draught at the brewpub in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a thick beige head that has some good retention and excellent lacing. Aroma of toasted and smoked multi-grain caramel malt, a touch of maple syrup, bacon, and floral hops. Taste is medium bodied, very light carbonation with flavors of smoked caramel malt, some milk chocolate, maple, and a touch of toffee. Finish continues the smoked malt aftertaste with a semi-sweet malt character. A solid smoked beer with a good balance of flavor. Juelze (1146) - Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA - SEP 19, 2008
On tap at Titletown. Finally, after mentioning to Dave about how he should brew a smoked beer, he finally did. And by how the bar crowd was reacting to it, it appears that Wisconsites love a smoked beer. Anyway, the appearance was of a rich reddish brown color with a light tan frothy head. Aroma is of light chocolate, malt, and faint smoke. Taste is light chocolate, smoked, mild malt, and a ligh hop fruitiness. Everything fits together well with this beer. Coming into Titletown I had a fear on how this one would taste as Dave never brewed this style before, however, he nailed it on the head. Nothing is one side like some smoked (Schlenkerla). This one is completely balanced and it would suit any beer lover perfectly no matter their preference on smoked beers. The only complaint is the finish has a bit of harsh bitterness that removes the great flavor achieved in this beer. However, don’t let my rating put you off to this beer, it’s only a slight complaint and the rest of what I say is true. This is a terrific beer! Good job Dave!
