On tap at the brewpub on 6/24/07: Barely transparent dark mahogany with a thin ring of light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet dark caramel and roasted malt with a hint of noble hops. Body starts with decent viscosity and semi-sweet earthy dark roasty malts and bitter German hops toward a roasty finish with a touch of dark chocolate. A pretty good schwarzbier. notalush (5922) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - JUN 23, 2008
A solid schwarz that drinks more like a porter - medium-bodied, with a strong roasty character and bitter chocolate flavor - a bit of coffee and sweet cream flavor - the sweetness gets stronger in the finish, but the roasted flavor keeps it in balance - quite good. Beer #23 at GTMW ’09. They called it "Dark Helmet #3" when poured. Dark beer, head starts brown at point of beer contact, but is quite white at the top. After a note of root beer to start, the taste tends more toward a stout in taste, with dark roasts, but no chocolate or coffee. Goes down very nice. esjaygee (3906) - Oak Creek, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 23, 2009
On tap at Titletown Brewing Company. Black with a thin tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel and very light chocolate. Taste of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate and mild caramel. Fairly smooth with minor malt bitterness. DasBierChef (1084) - Hudson, Wisconsin, USA - JAN 4, 2012
Very clever name for this tasty schwarzbier! Pours a deep black and has a nice roasty aroma and flavor to it.

TAP at Titletown. Pour is black. Aroma of subtle coffee, chocolate, and malt. Taste is a bit sweet. Medium body. One of the better beers on their line-up. Gespuccian (144) - Wisconsin, USA - SEP 10, 2016
Nose is roast, some dark chocolate. Taste corresponds. Nice dark roast flavor. Almost coffee like. Slightly bitter, smooth mouthfeel. Very nice beer.

On tap at the brewpub bar, and chose a czech-pils glass serving. The color was clear, dark brown, almost black/brown, with some garnet tones showing through the liquid. The head was off white, modest, and reduced rather quickly to a ring and film, but left some wavey lacing. The aroma was roasted coffee and some baker’s cocoa in a lesser degree. The flavor exposed smooth malt, just a hint of sweetness, and low+ hop bitterness that teamed up with some roasty dryness to persist into the finish. A flavorful "black Pils". akoeninger (775) - Wisconsin, USA - AUG 15, 2016
On tap at The Old Fashioned. Opaque black tan head. Light roasty and spiced aroma. Lots of roast in the taste with almost cinnamon hints in the finish. Medium bodied Drake (14078) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 18, 2017
12 ounce bottle from Flanagan’s Appleton. Dark brown, large foamy tan head, decent retention. Aroma of strong roasted malt and a bit of smoke. The taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, a bit of plum. Thin, mild lingering bitterness. Solid.
