A solid schwarz that drinks more like a porter - medium-bodied, with a strong roasty character and bitter chocolate flavor - a bit of coffee and sweet cream flavor - the sweetness gets stronger in the finish, but the roasted flavor keeps it in balance - quite good.

Very clever name for this tasty schwarzbier! Pours a deep black and has a nice roasty aroma and flavor to it.

TAP at Titletown. Pour is black. Aroma of subtle coffee, chocolate, and malt. Taste is a bit sweet. Medium body. One of the better beers on their line-up.

Nose is roast, some dark chocolate. Taste corresponds. Nice dark roast flavor. Almost coffee like. Slightly bitter, smooth mouthfeel. Very nice beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the brewpub bar, and chose a czech-pils glass serving. The color was clear, dark brown, almost black/brown, with some garnet tones showing through the liquid. The head was off white, modest, and reduced rather quickly to a ring and film, but left some wavey lacing. The aroma was roasted coffee and some bakers cocoa in a lesser degree. The flavor exposed smooth malt, just a hint of sweetness, and low+ hop bitterness that teamed up with some roasty dryness to persist into the finish. A flavorful "black Pils".

Draft. Hazy brown color, tan head. Aroma of coffee, toffee, dark fruit. Taste has cocoa, coffee, plums. Not bad.

On tap at The Old Fashioned. Opaque black tan head. Light roasty and spiced aroma. Lots of roast in the taste with almost cinnamon hints in the finish. Medium bodied

Pours a reddish-brown with a large foamy off-white head. Aroma is caramel and nutty malts. Taste is about the same with a bit of chocolate and smokiness. Quite drinkable.

Tap at the brewpub. Jet black pour with a grayish-white head. Roasted coffee, malt, and mild chocolate on the nose. Moderate mouthfeel. Taste was roated malts, coffee, and a touch of sweet.

On tap at the Malthouse here in Madison...the color was dark brown, almost black/brown. The head was off white and reduced rather quickly to a ring and film, but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was roasted coffee and some chocolate notes too a lesser degree. The flavor was a smooth malt, a bit of sweetness, and mild bitterness coupled with a moderate roasty dry finish.
