12 ounce bottle from Flanagan’s Appleton. Dark brown, large foamy tan head, decent retention. Aroma of strong roasted malt and a bit of smoke. The taste is roasted malts, dark chocolate, a bit of plum. Thin, mild lingering bitterness. Solid.

Madtown1 (13) - Wisconsin, USA - NOV 10, 2011
On tap at the Malthouse here in Madison...the color was dark brown, almost black/brown. The head was off white and reduced rather quickly to a ring and film, but left some lacing on the glass. The aroma was roasted coffee and some chocolate notes too a lesser degree. The flavor was a smooth malt, a bit of sweetness, and mild bitterness coupled with a moderate roasty dry finish.

UPDATED: MAY 28, 2007 Cask drawn ale courtesy of the manage (Now listed as Dark Helmet Schwarzbier) Dark brown in color with creamy offwhite head. Aroma is of light toffee, bitter chocolate, light fruit. Taste is light toffee and caramel, bitter chocolate and light roasted malt. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and very creamy. The natural carbonation is light but adequate.

3.3
ElGaucho (2401) - Minnetonka, Minnesota, USA - JUN 16, 2007
Sampler draft at brewpub. Smoke aspect in the nose. Almost fully opaque with dark reddish hues evident when held to light. Not much lace. Thin flavor; does not deliver on the promise the aroma provided. Smooth. Not a drain pour by any stretch. Would probably be better if served a little colder, although a beer of this style should actually be better a little warmer. An ok beer.

Ughsmash (7510) - Pewaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 8, 2009
On tap at Titletown. Poured deep brown, near black with a short cap of beige head. The aroma was very rich with deep chocolate and coffee upfront.. wafts of vanilla and earth accented.. not much of a hop presence here, but the malts were presented well. The flavor found sweeter chocolates than the nose indicated, along with black patent, coffee, and a touch of vanilla.. the bitterness that surrounded was hard to place and lacked direction.. sweet overall and a little spicy on the back. Medium-bodied with scratchy carbonation on the palate.. OK flow.. only the bitterness stuck on the finish. Aiight.

Light roasty, slight hop bitterness. Thin but not too thin. Once it warms a bit chocolate comes thru. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at Milwaukee Brew Fest 2013. Pour is close to black with a small tan head. Coffee grounds, chocolate, roasted malt, sweet. Finish is a bit acidic mixed with roast.
