English: Black Ball is a potent porter with a nice and round mouth feel combined with a lot of american hops, that balances the full and creamy body which has notes of chocolate, coffee and smoke.

Pours black with a fluffy brown head. Aroma is very roasty. Taste is slightly sweet and slightly bitter. There are notes of chocolate, vanilla, charred meat, anise, and some herbal hops. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Very roasty, very good.

500 ml can from the LCBO. Pours a very dark brown colour with large light tan head. Aroma is quite roasty with coffee, licorice, toffee, hints of dark fruit and resin. Flavour is also very dark and roasty with lots of coffee and anise, pine resin, toffee, herbs and a little dark fruitiness. Average plus body. Impressive.

Can: Pours a deep black porter in the glass with a massive mocha colored fluffy meringue head that stacks out of the glass and lasts, plastering the glass with lace as it drains. Pungent malty-roasty aroma with undertones coffee, cocoa, licorice, dark dried fruit, roast hazel nut, lemon grass, hay and spice. Medium body verging on the heavy side with a slick viscous mouth feel and rounded dark brooding roasty character. Flavor has sturdy malts and grains in front but a rush of sharp bittering keeps this in tow - there is less complexity on the plate than in the nose but you can discern some big dark fruit notes mingling with the smokey-roasty malts, cocoa and java side tones, hints of anise and dates and a rigid underlying burnt pine bittering - long wet increasingly bitter finish with a pronounced warming effect at the end. This is hyper porter - robust, rich and satisfying.

UPDATED: DEC 5, 2017 Donker bier met romige compacte mokkakleurige schuimkraag die redelijk lang blijft. Licht rokerig, chocolade, kandijsuiker, mout, flinke dosis hop. Topspul.

Can from the LCBO. Dark mahogany with a one finger khaki coloured head that hangs around and leaves some patchy lace. Nose is coffee, chocolate, brown sugar, smoke, pine, light grapefruit and floral notes. Flavour is light+ sweet caramel and brown sugar with a big bitterness with contributions from dark chocolate, coffee, pine, and citrus. Mouth is full, smooth and creamy with soft carbonation and lingering bitter finish. Alcohol is well integrated and there is enough hop presence to push this into Black IP territory. Excellent

Fles. Erg mooi zwart bier, met volle donkerbruine kraag. Volle, scherpe smaak (weinig aroma overigens). Prima! Goede porter.

Pours a perfectly dark black color with a 1/2 inch head at best when poured aggressively. Aroma is chocolate, malt, dried coffee, licorice, rich caramel, a deep smoke, and vanilla. Taste is similar but a bit more roasty, dark chocolate and bitter smokey chocolate play off of a very mild caramel, vanilla, and coffee flavor. Overall a great but very deep porter, one that is great but not very sessionable.
