ciocanelu (2539) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - OCT 8, 2016
Black color with creamy, tan head. Aroma has lots of chocolate and dark fruits, some wood as well. Taste is quite complex with barrel character, dry wine notes, dark chocolate, roasted malts, some cherries, really bitter finish and aftertaste with roasted malt but also hops. Body is quite light for the style and ABV, also quite dry. Overall it’s quite good and complex but it lacks some mouthfeel.

330ml bottle, thanks Sergiy. Still roasted, Cognac and Sherry elude my palate. The American hops over powers. I do feel some burnt harshness is lessened by some sweetness.

375ml bottle from 16th liquor store, tasted at Brian’s. Aroma is burnt malt, some woody and grassy character and some sherry notes. Taste is pretty the same character with some residual sweetness. Very good one if you like burnt malt beers.

On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration 2014. No lie that this is black as a ball. As good as jet black in the glass with a nice brown head light lacing head. It has a strong nose containing of wood, cognac, dark chocolate and licorice. Quite nice, and it has lots of flavor as well. The first thing that pops in my head is chocolate box. There’s slightly mouthdrying wood and licorice here also. Ends with a lingering dark roasted aftertaste. Really solid! 03.05.2014

CBC 14. Pours black with an off-white head. Sweet with a light bitterness. Aromas of toasted malts and chocolate with hints of cask wood and caramel. Grassy hints. Medium to full bodied. Medium to soft carbonation. Bitter finish.

Bottle, aged for a year. Pours Very dark brown, close to black, with a fat, fine mocha head. Seems quite carbonated. Nose has nicely roasted and toasted malts, chocolate and molasses. Not much barrel character, though. Very smooth mouthfeel, half bodied, with lots of molasses and chocolate flowing over your tongue, yet a very slight hint of sherry fruitiness and a bit of heat from the cognac. The chocolate lingers for quite a while, and slowly turns a little ashy in the mouth, meant in the nicest way possible..
