COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Style:BA Black DIPA
Malts:Pilsner, Flaked Oat, Munich, Cara Pils, Black Malt, Chocolate, Roasted Barley
Hops:Columbus, bobek, Centennial

Barrel aged on Chardonnay Barrels. Black Maria is an American inspired Black IPA. It is black as an stout and hoppy as an IPA. The beer has been brewed with a good amount of highly roasted Carafa Malts, but with a relatively low amount of caramel and chocolate malts. This way we get the burned bitter and delicate chocolate notes in the beers, that goes well with the bitter and fruity aromas of the hops. The lack of caramel and chocolate results in less residual sweetness that you normally pick up from an Stout. For the hops we wanted some hops that could stand up against the Carafa malts. Therefore we used a mix of Columbus, Centennial, Galaxy and Cascade for the hop profile.

Words from our label designer Kasper about the label:
The label shows the inner yard of the Copenhagen Police Yard folded out on 4 pictures with a quote and a name merged together. The shitty tree on the neck-wrap stands in contrast to the main labels monumental expression. The police is as fake as the quality of the wood. The label is dedicated to police commander Bjarne.

Bottle. Black in color with a frothy tan head. Fairly much of roasted notes in aroma together with some grapefruit, burnt wood and chocolate. More of them chocolatey vibes with some additional citrus and slightly herbal notes in taste. Quite creamy mouthfeel. Notes of citrussy chocolatecake made over campfire in aftertaste, also a bitter twist in the end.

Black pour with a fairly thick head, which settles down fairly quickly to a tight tan layer. Roasted malt, pine, coffee, pine, citrus aromas. Nice roasted malt flavour, pine bitterness, a little coffee, a little woodiness.

[email protected] & Friends, Copenhagen - pours black with a beige head. Roasted malty and hoppy aroma and taste, pine and grassy floral hoppy, couldn’t really register the chardonnay (maybe if I had let it warm up perhaps) but didn’t detract from what is a lovely black ipa.

On tap at Mikkeller and Friends. Black with a small off-white head. Hoppy aroma of citrus and pine, with hints of grapes, red berries and coffee beans. Dryish malty and hoppy flavour with lots of roasted character, coffee, and citrus/pine.

UPDATED: NOV 29, 2014 Aroma: grass, coffee, citrus, resin, cocoa, chilli, grape, caramel, vanilla, bubblegum; Appearance: dark brown, small foamy head; Taste: medium bitterness, medium sourness, slight sweetness; Palate: slick texture, full body, average carbonation, long finish Pretty dry after aging, yet still pretty drinkable and with well-hidden alcohol. Crosses style borders between black IPA and a RIS thanks to maturing.

Süß malziger Hopfenantrunk, vollmundig. Die Malzigkeit steigert sich noch etwas, süffig, mild röstig. Steigend röstig zum Ende hin, dabei intensiv grasig, insgesamt harmonisch. Gut! 11/12/13/12/10/12
